Rear cylinder tick after cam chain extender install.

The HLA might be a problem, but the noises from the chain will go away when the chain self adjusts. By taking out the tensioner both times, you reset them to "0" like they were running on a new chain and guides. Just remember, there are 4 HLA units in each head...

Guys, here's one for you.  Looking at the mods section, I surmised that I should check my cam chain tensioner travel on my higher mileage 99 Kaw Glide; (67000 mi.).  I did and they were at the bottom of their travel so I ordered a set and installed them before the 4th of July weekend.  Initially all was well and the extenders made a noticeable difference in sound as in a quieted tickover at idle.  So after a shakedown ride, i set out on my 700 mile journey.  About 100 miles into the trip, things slowed down a bit.  I became aware of a ticking sound at about 1/2 engine speed.  At my next fuel stop I could here it through my helmet with ear plugs in.  Not that it is THAT loud, it's just that she never had  a tick before so it stood out to me; (I even took the sound dampers out of the heads to hear more valve train some time ago).  i thought about turning around but drove on vowing to keep and ear on it.  After a while it became clear that it was the rear cylinder tho the bike ran as it always did with no loss in power or fuel economy.  At my next stop I was still contemplating turning around when the sound was gone!  OK, keep riding to my destination and let's remove that rear tensioner again and check it.  After a day of fishing I brought the cold engine around to TDC or the top of the exhaust/ intake stroke, pulled out the tensioner and everything looked ok.  The tensioner extension was working since the shaft was now flush with the top of the body with the cap off.  Put it back on (after loosing the bearing in the grass for an hour or two) and drove it for 50 miles.  Tick, tick, tick.  Put 1000 miles on that bike over the extended weekend and it ran like a top except for that tick.  Kicked it over in my brain for some time.  The only thing I can think of is the HLA has decided to make it's presence known.  Any ideas?
