Ok here is my solution to the fuel cell issues. I do a lot of riding in roads were there is few and not always open fueling places, so with a 5 gal tank I figured I wanted some extra back up just in case. So total cost of this project was less then $100.00 the bottles were like $18.00 ea., the carriers were $17.00 ea., then assorted nuts and bolts, paint from my shop and the piece of aluminum.
I have this designed so that I can take off the carriers and leave the flat bar in place. The Passenger grab rails are not effected in any way they are still usable. On a long trip my throw over saddle bags cover them, and yet they are readily accessible. This gives me 66 fl ozs of fuel that I'll not have to walk for....

I bottomed out also and had to move the bottles to side mount. I was very surprised at how much the fender moves.

.....ok never thought of under the luggage rack, but then I have bottomed mine out once already. There is a difference between the 800 and the 1500 on how much the rear fender moves.
I have come up with an idea for the 800 for mounting them out of the way and relatively easy to put on and remove. Once I get the parts painted and the correct nuts and bolts not the ones I used for mock up I'll post on here. Thanks for sharing, I will check into that idea also.

I bought a couple of the MSR Fuel Bottle's just in case. The vent is built in to the cap so the pressure discharges as your taking it off.

I have found the Storage Tubes for a very reasonable price if anyone is interested. There is a vent in the storage even though it's got a rubber gasket, go figure.

One can will get you 10 to 12 miles down the road.  That is quite a bit of "not pushing."  I have a half gallon container of stabilized fuel that I now have for my trailer, but if I was traveling without the trailer, I would have 1 quart of this fuel with me.  No doubt.

If 10 miles doesn't get you to a gas station, it could at least get you off the road.... in a safe place to find additional help.

TruFuel looks like a great idea.

Very expensive, but for certain situations it would be ideal.
And the can will be handy to reuse at the pump.
Hmmm, depending on the cap of course.
Will it reseal and not leak is the question.
The camp stove aluminum fuel bottles work well for that.
Somebody buy a can and let us know

So how about this:
In the spring, buy 2 cans at the hardware store (or a 6 pack)
Carry them around with you for the riding season.
Then in the fall, before storage, run down the fuel as low as you can, and pour whatever TruFuel you have left in your tank for stabilized winter storage???

Anybody use a "spare" fuel bottle.   I know I've seen some posts on this subject here.   I'm considering adding a quart or so or maybe even a whole litre (for you metric folks).    SO looking for the best suggestions for a setup - Safe and Cheap.

I know they make aluminum bottles for camping to store camp stove fuel (basically gasoline) that would work (30 oz, or I've seen a 1.5L version) - and I could use a fire extinguisher bracket made to mount to a buggy roll bar - to mount said bottle to the frame somewhere.....   But looks like I'd have $40 or somewhere in the neighborhood.

Looking to pick some brains for other better-cheaper ideas...    Of course safety is the #1 criteria in the end.

I use 2 one quart fuel containers filled with high octane fuel..... that I keep fresh and empty monthly into my mower gas.... and one 1/2 gallon of stabilized fuel from Amazon.   But, I use a trailer.  If I didn't have a trailer, I would find a way to haul a quart of fuel.... which would get me 10 miles down the road.... which is a long ways when you are pushing your bike!

I wonder if they make those that aren't pre-mixed. If so, then you could have a completely sealed can of gas and not have to worry about whether or not it reseals.

I think these are available at the hardware store.   Buy a can of "canned gas", use it in the chain saw, and then use the can over for gas storage on the bike....  This makes it pretty cheap.  If the lid will re-seal.

Break out a can of red spray paint, and away we go...

I'm pretty lucky, we have plenty of gas stations over here, although some are not open 24 hours and this meant that I had to slow down to stretch out the fuel back in 2013 when I did my Iron Butt ride. The drifter has a very good reserve compared to my other bikes. I did a round the coast of Britain, 4500 miles in 2012 on a Shadow 1100 which I had to push when it ran out.. No time limit on that one..

Those fuel cells don't have a pump in them for the injection, so I'm not sure how you would feed your fuel system. Should work ok on a carbed engine,since gravity is ALMOST always available...
