You eat some pretty horrible things over there, what is this salad stuff you talk about, I hope it's not the same stuff we feed to rabbits and horses, and peanut butter sandwich.. There are people starving in Africa who wouldn't eat the stuff you people eat.

I can't waste any more time on this I have to get back to preparing a frogsleg, snail and nettle soup with dried slugs to crumble over it.

John.

I think we need to send John the real thing...obviously he's not able to get them, and would probably be happy with them.

Raw, peeled, they have the crunch and sweetness almost like a carrot. Cooked they are much sweeter, very similar to cooked carrots. They are often used in sweet pies, and have a very similar flavor and texture to pumpkin. I had some roasted chips last night. They are usually too sweet for my taste, but these were pretty good. The skins are very, very thin, thinner than a potato most of the time. Looks like an elongated potato.

I just get the feeling you either got something other than sweet potatoes or they were bad.

Sounds like you are getting a version we don't have here. Perhaps if you had the real thing, you would feel differently. I was raised with my Grandmother doing most of the cooking in my family, and though this is usually an ideal situation, in my case, well, let's pt it this way....she could screw up a peanut butter sandwich. I never ate a lot of things because of early in life bad experiences. About 5 years ago, I tried sweet potatoes and discovered that I REALLY LIKE THEM....as long as they aren't prepared with my Grandmother's "recipe"....

They were marked sweet potato on the packet but they looked halfway between the two photos shown above, not as dark as the top one nor as light as the bottom one, under the skin was a secondary color that matched the top photo for color, this was about 1/8" thick, much the same as the second skin on a swede..

I won't be trying them again..

It's one of those things that Terry Pratchett writes about, some disgusting thing that we try to get the foreigner to eat, like sheep's eyeballs. Tell them it's a delicacy,

That's a standing joke in my family now, We tried boiling mashing, frying as chips, and roasting, there was no way our minds could accept them as food.. Finally we hit on a successful method of using them, they filled a space in the rubbish bag to make it more rounded for the bin men to carry.

John.

I've been meaning to ask... what color is the inside of your "sweet potatoes".... which one of these looks like what you bought.  We have a habit here in the USA to call sweet potatoes "yams", they are not the same thing... but we don't care!

Keep them in a cool dark space, use them within a week or so, don't put them in the refrigerator. The season is Oct - March, if that matters to you. Hot house not as good as fresh.

Why do I have the distinct feeling that what you are calling sweet potatoes is not what we have here. Last nigh, I made dinner with a grilled chicken breast cut up in a big salad and a baked sweet potato...it was great...

who said anything about not eating it all at once..

I've  just cooked dinner for me and my son.

Roast chicken, sage and onion stuffing, a sausage wrapped in Yorkshire pudding, garden peas, carrots, cauliflower, roast potatoes and gravy.

If you have a nice big chocolate cake that has 2000 calories, cut it in half, then it will only be 1000 calories and you can eat twice as much.

John.

Or cut it in 1/4s and have it 4 days in a row...Right now, there is a red velvet cake sitting in the refrigerator, sliced in 1/10s...each one worth 300 cals. I'm getting pretty good at estimating my intake. I'm never hungry, I just eat lots of salads and other vegetables. Here's an example: A 4 egg omelet for lunch with a whole green pepper and a small onion cut up in it...a bunch of hot sauce and one slice of whole wheat toast....350 cals.

All I did was start reading labels and eating ONE serving, rather than what ever I wanted. This web site has been a great help in figuring out what is what.  http://www.caloriecount.com/

Excellent pictures!

The question, it seems to me, is not which picture looks better, but how do you feel?
Energy level, mood, sleep, strength, etc.
Yes, too thin is not healthy, and too heavy is even worse.
Like our bikes, we are healthiest when we are purring along.   :)

I recently went from 198 to 172 and I feel much better overall.
It is painful to see how little food I should be eating compared with how much I  like to eat.
Like one piece of pizza. Who eats only one piece???
It is good so I eat 4 or 5 BIG pieces of a large full combo pizza.

It requires a change of mind set, or as my doctor says, a new life.

It is difficult to stick with the healthy eating when I am regularly tempted at work with people bringing in home made treats to share.
Brownies, pies, fudge, cookies, and today was pizza.
Torture!

My last doctor visit (I have to go every 3 months) was most interesting because the doctor was amazed at the huge change in my blood cholesterol levels. The bad was cut by half, the good was way up, and the total was excellent. He said to keep doing what I'm doing because it is working.

The doctor very happy since he is big on exercise, healthy eating, and enjoying life.

It's time to stop losing weight and try to maintain your current build..

I've lost about 30lbs in the last year, that's enough for me, my mind keeps telling me I would like to weigh 168lbs and then I tell it to shut up, 210lbs seems good enough.

You need some reserves to get you through the next illness.

I think John has hit the nail on the head. Congrats on the loss! But we put on a little extra as we ahh...get to be a certain age for a reason....that reserve John speaks of. Hubby actually had his cancer treatment delayed for a short time while he was ordered to gain as much weight as possible. And this is a professional opinion!

Troll

Nope. I will watch a Packer game if it's an "important" one. I switch back and forth between the game and what ever I really want to watch..usually when there are commercials, just to see what's going on. Basically, anything that has a ball associated with it, doesn't interest me.

Mr. Troll I must ask do you have one of them there football hats like a wedge of cheese in your house someplace?

This is just the kind of encouragement I need (?)....I'll go get some sun as soon as we have some...

I notice that nobody has congratulated you on your magnificent feat, not to mention your smelly feet, so let me be the first to get it in..

The general consensus seems to be that you are not going to be around much longer, and I have to agree that maybe at your age you might be looking for a bus pass instead of riding a big motorcycle..

Just an opinion to cheer you up in your twilight years.

John.

CDNRatMan

Just my 2 cents here, I think the middle picture is the "you" the last one sorry but you look like you are ill, or it is just the colour of the picture and your natural paleness from then long cold Wisconsin winters and surviving on cheese for the winter.......you might need to go outside and get some sun on your face.......
go and buy one of them little German pot helmets......lol......

Supposedly 168 would be my "ideal" weight, but as of this morning, I was 172...I'm trying to level off. I was 175 for about 6 months, and then started losing again....I guess I really didn't realize just how much I'd changed until I found the old pictures...scarey

On the other hand if you lose a bit more, it will make it easier for them to carry your coffin.

100 and counting....  Betcha can't get to 200...  ::)

Looks like you are getting pretty close to your ideal weight, there buddy.   There's such a thing as too thin, too, you know (so I'm told) so don't go overboard!
