Ok my grandson has just become a British Lord..

Wow! that sounds impressive, important and lots of other things beginning with im..

But all is not as it seems

During WW11 we had Gun towers set off the coast to defend our shores against German invasion, about 12 miles out..

In the 1960's a man named Roy Bates squatted on one of these towers just off the coast of Felixstowe with his family.. later a pirate radio station sent some big men to throw him off so that they could broadcast from there.. he fought them off with a shotgun.. Then the British government tried to throw him off by declaring that he was there illegally.. but as he was outside Britains territorial waters he won the right to stay there.. The original name for the gun platform was rough towers, but once he won the legal right to stay there he renamed it sealand and called himself the Prince of Sealand..

He died in 2012..and named his son, prince of sealand.

Now Sealand is the smallest country in the world.

Now for £30 or about $45 you can become a Lord or Lady of Sealand or for a bit more a Baron..

John.
