I hear ya!
it definetly takes some getting used to.
I don't know how many times I lost my balance and went end-over-end  trying to raise my left foot over the tank to shift.

Now that there is funny!  Quite the mental image it paints.

If I used one of those, I wouldn't be able to check my email as I was going through the gears.

Maybe I can throw you together one....  with some baling wire and pipe fittings......

So......some bailing wire and some PVC fittings and glue?

LarryInSeattle

If I used one of those, I wouldn't be able to check my email as I was going through the gears.

$300.

I would say 300 isn't bad for such a well designed  product and great quality parts.  and for a out of production uncommon motorcycle.

if this was a product made and sold by polaris Indian for their Indians...it would probably be no less than $1,300.  and I'm not being out of line.  go to their website and check out some of their prices on accessories.
it's uncanny, lol

LarryInSeattle

Thanks for the shifter reply.  So, what is a reasonable price for one of those gadgets?

darkdrifter

I forget what I paid for mine.
I don't remember them being all that much.

CDNRatMan

I need to find one I can afford.

darkdrifter

yes mine came from ted and it is top notch machinework.
the right hand shift is very nice for down shifting, or finding neutral when your not moving, or loading/pushing the bike.
and if you install it and don't care for it, just ignore it as it doesn't get in the way or affect normal shifting.  imo it will probably help the resale value of the bike anyway

CDNRatMan

Well Larry all the 800's as far as I know came with a heel and toe shifter, the hand shifter is an add on by Ted's Design, you can find a few about for sale still.

I guess I am confused or something.  My 800 has a foot shifter?   Did I get a reject?  Or a Chinese knock off copy?  Damn it.

funny how the temps get in the 40s and it feels like a heat wave

We were talking about that the other day, the ambient temps have been hovering in the -20*C or more for the past week, but with the wind it was in the -30*C temps....well the winds stopped and the temps stayed in the -20*C and such but people were saying how nice and warm it was....lol.....

she hasn't seen the light of day since sometime last fall.
weather finally broke today.  funny how the temps get in the 40s and it feels like a heat wave

Dark drifter I think it looks pretty good myself brother . I'm thinking by painting the nut directly under the shifter ball red will will make this whole project pop . This may change the whole look of the leather wrap  ::)

thanks!
it's not the red and black that I'm having a problem with,  that's what I asked for, I was thinking he was going to lace it from top to bottom, instead of around the middle.  kinda like you see the shift handles in cars.
oh well,  I'll wait till I see it outside in the spring and see how it looks.
it's funny the miniscule trivial things that I let myself be concerned with on a 15 year old m9torcycle, lol

But, then, it's those trivial miniscule things that really "make" the bike, isn't it?

I also thought it reminded me of a baseball.

No Worries

CDNRatMan

I like it more like a baseball which is an American thing.......so live with it...lol......

darkdrifter

just catching up on the forum this morning and forgot about getting back to this thread.

this led turn signal thing didn't pan out.  the flasher I bought won't work with the drifter 800 turn signal controller.
I may still be able to get it to work, but lost intrest.  hell, I cant remember the last time I've ever had to replace a turn lamp bulb anyway.

I did have my tank shifter handle wrapped in black leather with red lacing though.
I'm on the fence whether I like it or not.
