1999 & 2000 2up 1500 seats will fit later models, and 2001+ Fire & Steel 2 up 1500 seats will retrofit 1999 & 2000 1500 bikes.

And remember, new seats are still available from Corbin. They are expensive but I have used Corbin seats forever on all my bikes.

Pcarrell, thanks a bunch. this is very helpful. I did get ahold of moosewing3 and he made me a very reasonable offer which I am considering. I had no idea this was quite the elaborate setup on these, but then again, these are very unique bikes.
Hopefully and can get all of this put together in a jiffy, then get her out. Bad weather hitting us next week though.
Thanks again everyone for their help. I now remember how helpful everyone is on this forum and that is one of the main reasons why I joined. I will be sure to get some of the before and after pics out.

made2care, under your little profile picture on each of your posts there is a couple of icons.  One of them kind of looks like a cartoon word balloon, and if you hover over it for a second it should read "Private Message".  We all have that feature.  To PM someone, find one of their posts and click on that icon.  That brings up a page that you can then type your message to them in and send it.  Their name should already be in the "To:" section.  Messages sent to you can be retrieved on the "My Messages" button near the top of every page.

As for the seat, a Nomad seat can be persuaded to work (I think Troll has this setup), but you still need that horseshoe bracket.  Custom work then needs done to mount the Nomad seat to the bracket.  This is because the rear fender on a Drifter is not connected to the frame like on most bikes.  On a Drifter it's connected to the swing arm, so it moves with the suspension, which can make for a REALLY bumpy ride if you had the seat pad connected to it.  Also, that fender is only made of plastic and is only rated for holding up to 10lbs, so unless your wife is VERY skinny, that's not going to work.

If you look under the rear of your solo seat, you'll find, on each side, two metal "ears" that stick up.  They have a couple of holes drilled and tapped in them.  This is where the horseshoe bracket and any saddlebag brackets bolt up to your frame.  Everything is cantilevered from that point.  The top few pics on this link show both setup's using my bike so you can see how it all goes together: http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/oemsbsetup.html

There's more info here that might help you: http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?action=links;cat=33

In the end, that horseshoe bracket is pretty much necessary for any 2up setup.

Hopefully you and mossewing can work something out because if you can then you're halfway to getting the wife on the bike!

I also have an '02 1500 that when I purchased was only set up for a single rider.
Aside from the seat all the extra hardware that I required was available through the Kawi dealer.
If your bike was like mine you will also need to add rear foot pegs or boards plus the hardware for this.

so moosewing3 how do we do this. is their a private messaging feature where we can cut a deal. I guess you can just email me.
Really don't want to spend more than buck fifty on a seat. then I still have to hunt down the horseshoe bracket.

moosewing3

no this is the wrong seat. Drifter seats are very specific as the have to be cantilevered so no weight goes on the rear fender. Not sure what you are looking to spend but I may have one for you, but without the horseshoe attachment.

Thanks guys for your thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate it.
Question. I found a seat on ebay, its from a 03 nomad and it appears as though the passenger seat just sits on the rear fender, is that correct? no need for horseshoe type attachment?

Sorry to hear about your wife cancer truly is the ugkiest word in the world.  I am sorry i am not much help to you as i have only had my bike a very short time hope your wife continues to recover god bless

There is a 2up seat for the Drifter, both 800 and 1500 (not interchangeable).  Here's some info on the more common ones: http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/drifterseats.html

To add a 2up seat to your bike you'll also need what's refered to as the "Horseshoe bracket".  It's the part that goes directly under and supports the rear of the seat in this link: http://www.ronayers.com/Optional-Parts-C378988.aspx

These parts are getting harder to find, but not impossible.  Ebay might be a good way to go, and you could  always post a "Want To Buy" ad on this site: http://www.vulcandrifterriders.com/forum/index.php?board=29.0

Okay, I have not been on here for a while. my wife was diagnosed with lymphoma about a year ago, and we have gone to hell and back, but she is doing much better. she does not ride and yesterday, she really surprised me. She simply said she would like to get on my bike with me and go for a short trip down to one of our lakes nearby. about a 30 min ride. I was shocked and almost fell out of my chair.
Here's the problem. I only have a solo seat. I have an 02 1500. Is there a 2up seat for this bike, and if so , where do I purchase it.
I really want to get her out before she changes her mind. And after all she has been through in the last year, I owe it to her to live again. Lymphoma is a blood cancer, and it has turned our once steady, free flowing lives, upside down. I have to get some type of seat where she can ride with me. please help, thank you.
