Great stuff..Dark matter..

Some time ago scientists used maths to work out what the universe was made of..

They worked out that a certain percentage was lumps called stars or suns, these were surrounded by smaller lumps called planets, they had smaller lumps called moons, and then there were even smaller lumps called asteroids, meteors and comets..but they still had a lot of space left between all of this...

and because they couldn't see it, or measure it, or bounce light off it or refract anything off it they called it Dark matter..

Just to make their sums come out right..

Cosmologists have decided that this invisible stuff, because it doesn't stop light or anything else from passing through it, then it must be possible for it to pass through anything, including planets..So five years ago, at a cost of billions of dollars the USA built an underground laboratory to detect Dark matter.. they still haven't detected any, but they believe that thousands of particles are passing through their lab equipment all the time..

Now they have come up with two more theoretical things..Dark energy, and Dark flow..

I didn't make this up..

People invented fire, steel, engines, televisions and microwave ovens and they didn't just do it in theory, I can use all of them.. These people were called inventors and I think that they were the real scientists..but how long does it take to understand that that black bit that makes up most of the universe is called space for a reason..

I can explain Dark matter for anyone who needs to know..Just turn out the light..

John.
