Well, ......   At least you have the pictures....     Troll and I paid $6-7 each for pictures of us on our bike on the Tail of the Dragon....

Be thankful you didn't get a ticket in New Jersey.  With an attorney and court fees, you could be looking at $1,000.

Typical money-grab. It literally has nothing to do with 'unsafe act' when they do that. It is strictly about the government and insurance companies riding the cash cow. Too bad a reporter doesn't do an expose' about it, complete with video of these "speed traps" if for no other reason than to make people more aware of what is happening. With enough public outcry, maybe that crap will stop.

When I first started riding a motorbike some of our roads had no speed limit, in those days the police used to ride around on bicycles and many of us used to ride out to the countryside for a few drinks and a meal at a pub. It was all very civilised, we were polite to each other and then we would ride home..

I accept that there is more traffic on the roads and so there have been a few small changes to the law, but I didn't think they applied to me..

When I lived in New Zealand I used to speed all the time, in fact I allowed a certain amount of my income to pay for the speeding tickets, I never complained because I considered it was fair enough that if I wanted to speed I would have to pay for it..

Now the law has changed again..The top speed limit in Britain is 70 mph, but now if you break the law you are fined a minimum of £100..$148 and given three points on your license, (if you get 12 points you lose your license)..Now added to the fine and the points, the insurance companies charge you a lot extra to insure your bike, so speeding is no longer something you can get away with..

When speed cameras were first fitted in Britain they were well signposted and only fitted in small roads in the town, outside schools, and sometimes a police car would park beside a highway to catch the really fast drivers.

Now we have variable speed cameras on highways where the speed may change several times on the same stretch of road, some of these roads are unlit at night and so you can't see the speed limit signs and some of the speed limit signs are overgrown with tree leaves.

Sometimes on a 70 mile an hour road they will slow the speed down to 50 mph for 400 yards just to trap people who are not watching the road carefully enough.

Last week I got a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) for speeding..I was riding on a long road (the A12) which has speed limits that vary from 70 mph down to 50 mph. I was riding a 60 mph stretch that suddenly dropped to 50 mph just long enough to get me..

As you ride, you have your eyes on the traffic, on the road for spillage or other obstructions, on your mirrors, for anything coming up behind you, on the side of the road for speed signs and turnoffs and on your speedo for the speed you are travelling, you don't have a lot of spare time..

I came up behind a row of cars travelling at 40 mph, (locals who knew about the speed trap) and started to overtake, because of the additional danger of overtaking I missed the sign stating the lower speed limit..

Enclosed with my speeding ticket was a offer, As I was only doing 59 mph, or 9 mph faster than the posted speed limit I could go on a speed awareness course which will cost £15 less than the fine and I will not get any points on my license..

I'm 70 years old, I have been riding for 54 years and I have to go into a classroom for four hours to be lectured about the dangers of speeding in the hopes that it will teach me to be able to see every single posted change of speed limit notice and every hidden camera.
