Last good President

"Greatness" is a relative term and it does not necessarily mean GOOD. While none of our Presidents were perfect, most have done their job in support of our Constitution and our Republic. With few exceptions a good biographer could make any of these into a national "hero".  The public sees what they want to see, hears what they want to hear and sometimes they will ignore the truth and turn a mediocre politician into a "GREAT" leader.

While I have sometimes not respected the holder of the office of President, I will always respect the Office. Our GREAT Presidents of the past more than outnumber the bad ones. And, I am very sure we will have another GREAT President in our lifetime, I hope he is truly a great STATESMAN and leader, not just a paper hero.

I think you're on to something there.  I don't think any of them really have the people's well-being in mind.  They just campaign on a few hot-button issues that they know will bring the party loyalists to the polls.   They are all owned by big corporations and do their bidding, as well as that of other large special-interest contributors.  Some also want to help those less fortunate, while others give welfare to the very rich.  Take your pick.

So basically, you're saying that the last great President was George Washington, since he didn't even want the job but was willing to do it for his country?  From that perspective, you're right!  George Washington would be hard to top!

Don't see what being an actor should have to do with it; He still did a lot better than some, when you consider the background, education and professions of a lot of them.....and I SHOULD have titled it "Last good President, imho"..... no offence was implied.

Last "good President" that's a concept that would be quite an interesting argument. It all depends on what the people you ask want. I would have to say, that for about 47% of the people right now, the current one is the best...for the rest of us, the other 53%...or more depending on which poll you read, probably Ronald Reagan....As far as FDR goes, the only differences between him and the current regime are that he couldn't play golf, and he was white..otherwise, they are pretty much the same...progressive tax and spend, give away to the least capable...Hang on there, are we getting political?

Like Hitler, he was a master of media.  Seriously, a movie actor becomes President?

I would say opinions vary quite a bit on the last great President.  I would say FDR tops them all.
