Roving90 - did you check out the ebay listing for the Road House exhaust with flexible heat shields - eBay item number:171391858707?

It's listed until September 17th, if I lived in the US I would have bought them, unfortunately with exchange rate, shipping, import taxes and 15 % GST it just isn't economical to get them shipped to the bottom of the world.....LoL

Check with some of your local shops in the area- find someone that bends exhaust tubing perhaps, or does some truck exhaust.  They should have easy access to SS flex.

Around here it's easiest to find it at farming supply stores.  They use it for tractors and stuff.

FYI - Greenbarn, I would be interested in the 2" SS flex exhaust tubing but it would be dependent on cost of shipping to Wellington 6022, New Zealand.

I'm going to guess between the cost of the flex and then the shipping - you could probably buy a whole 10' piece locally.   Check with some of your local shops in the area- find someone that bends exhaust tubing perhaps, or does some truck exhaust.  They should have easy access to SS flex.

Sorry guys, excuse this Kiwi Caveman's ignorance (what is a PM?) as a true Neanderthal I am just learning about computers so not exactly sure on terminology or how to post things properly.

So need to ask if any one with the serrated heat shields knows what they are made of.....

It appears to be SS flex exhaust tubing.  I can buy it relatively inexpensively from my exhaust supplier, and could cut pieces to length pieces and ship it to those who want it.  I have to buy 10 or 20 feet at at a time, though.  It appears to be 2" flex, but I would want to know for sure.

No updates from Cool Flex - this is not unusual, it appears that soooo many US based companies dont respond when using their websites "Contact Us" as they are designed for US only - if you cant enter a state, they fail or wont submit, even if it does state "submitted" they don't reply.
It never ceases to amaze me that if you ask something "outside the box" companies just don't respond (sorry about the gripe) 

Why don't you PM me the questions and info you wanted addressed by them and I'll send it from right here in the Heartland of the USA, then let you all know what they say.

Just found a set of Road House 2 into 1 exhausts on ebay on August 15th (NZ time)
"NEW ROADHOUSE EXHAUST SYSTEM Classic Exhaust / Serrated Shields p/n 1800-0116" item # 171391858707, not sure what mods may be required to fit to 800 Drifter but if anyone knows, as always any and all help gratefully accepted.

Looks like copper is the metal.  I would think that a cut-off disk in a Dremel tool, and a little time, could open up the back side a little, between the joints, to allow for better breathing.

  ok couple of questions:

I went out and checked my system just now, and you would need 18" for the front and 13" for the rear and that is enough for a any issues.  So in chrome it will run in the area of 125.90, and no cost on shipping yet.

But my questions are more technical.

I know that the smooth heat shields are only cover only a bit over half the exhaust pipes. This will allow a lot of air flow over the exhaust to keep it cool. So a solid cover over the pipe keep a lot of the heat inside the cover, good or bad?

These are made of copper? Not sure how they would stand up to the heat.

It will be interesting on what Kiwi can find out.

Great updates guys. I have emailed Cool Flex and I'm waiting for a response in regards to using their blacked out flexible hosing as a heat shield over the headers. If I get a response from them I will update you with what they say.

That's what I was thinking!  You could get mighty creative with that!

Heck, you could even have red serrated covers on your red bike!  Or black on your blackout bike!

 now that might work just fine, cost of the tubing is not really bad, I'll have to measure mine to see how much you would actually need.

 Your most welcome, and I do know that the Road House system the nuts ( for lack of a better word for it) is somehow welded or attached to the serrated cover. Then the instructions tell you to attach the pipes with the flanges and install them loosely, then to slide the covers up over the pipes and have the set screws in the nuts towards yourself and tighten them only enough to hold the bolts in place. Then to line things up with the lower parts and tighten once the complete system is tight then to loosen the set screws on the nuts and turn them so they are not seen and tighten them.

Some day.....but some day a front hub cover also, hard to find parts......

 The road house exhaust with the serrated heat covers did in fact slide up over the header pipes and then there was a couple of tabs that were used at the lower end with a hose clamp to hold it in place behind the cover, at the top it was cover with the big "bolt"  and these bolts were held in place by a couple of Allan headed screws. Hope the pictures help....

The uppers look to me like the hose clamp covers for stainless radiator hoses

As far as I know, they are just pieces of stainless steel flex exhaust pipe slid over the normal header pipes...just like Harley used to do.

That's what I was going to try, originally when I was thinking about trying to make something - I think they look great.  I have access to flex tubing, so I thought I might try to put pieces over the pipes.  Only thing is what to do with the ends.  I'm sure there's a solution.
