ceramic brake pads

I can't tell you what pads are fitted to my Drifter but I can tell you that after riding 1,000 miles last week on a mixture of good and bad roads, wet muddy potholed farm tracks, loose gravel and dusty uneven tracks about six foot wide running in deep tractor tire ruts with blind corners and slippery grass in weather that was sometimes nice and other times made me want to find where Noah lives, I have returned home  ready for new pads all round, new tyres, new steering head bearings, new wheel bearings, new plugs, and a good grease around the splines on the rear wheel...The front brake is making horrible rasping noises and that churk, churk, churk sound like a tire hitting the forks as it rotates but it didn't let me down on the last 300 mile run home at speeds of up to 90mph..Time for the bike to have a much needed rest.

GB I ran a thread on ceramic brakes , me thinks it's under ceramic brake pads ? Any way I bought mine on the web last winter from something fifties It's in that  thread , sorry don't remember exact name , but I must say I'm very pleased with them thus far . For the price and going on my second year with them and imagine will get more life , I'm pleased

  GB: I too used the EBC pads, put new ones on the front last winter and used them all summer, very little wear not even enough to really show. I like John's thoughts, but never heard them whistle, or vibrate. Just my 2 cents worth....

I think the main selling point of ceramic pads is that they last longer..as to the less dust part, here is what I think, more grip, more wear, more dust..But dust is not really a problem, brake pads are open to the wind so most of the dust will blow away..now about the wear..well the pads rub against the disk and if you are going to push two surfaces together at speed one of those surfaces is going to wear, I would rather have that wear on the replaceable pads than the expensive disks..

Just my opinion based on nothing other than general knowledge..

I imagine if you google both types of pads you will find that the people who sell one type and not the other will tell you that theirs is the best..I will stick with the composite ones that I have been using for years..

As a side note I have heard that some EBC pads cause the brakes to whistle while riding and some cause a vibration..If you are comfortable with what you already use, then maybe you should stick with it.

So I saw some talk a while back on ceramic pads.  I had put brakes on the 800 last year, and went with EBC pads - I did not see where they offered ceramic at that time.  Honestly, I tend to stick more with a brand name I trust when it comes to something like brakes, unless I can get a good recommendation from people I trust.

So who has put on ceramic pads?

How do you like them?

Is the brake dust really less?

Stopping power OK?

Noise??

What brand and where did you get them??
