Found the info:
....

Have you found the spec pages on the VDR site:
From the forum, there's a link to the VDR main website,
then go to Drifter Info, and the specs for both the 800 and 1500 are there (along with a bunch of other cool stuff.)

Yes my bike is carrying a rather substantial load also, that's how I got it, it was either lose weight or buy a bigger bike. Way easier to buy a bigger bike.

My '99er typically runs about 120 before the go-get-gas light comes on. Some days I wish it would go further on a tank but most days my butt says "far enough Bubba!".  Stretch a bit then carry on.

Found the info:

Fuel Tank

Capacity
1999-00

16.0 Liter (4.23 gal)

2001-05

19.0 liter (5.0 gal)

.8 gallon is a pretty big difference in tank size.

Didn't the 99 and 00 Drifters have a smaller tank the following years?

I think my 00 has a 4.2 gallon tank. abate the 5 gallon one.

My warning light comes on between 150 and 160 miles, depending on how my right hand is doing, and depending on terrain.  In the hills, it's closer to 150, but on flat, open road, closer to 160.  I did run it up to 170 miles once, but decided to chicken out since it is kind of a heavy bike to push!

Nice. So 120 miles to just above the red zone is average? ? have done no tinkering and have been so wrapped up in dealing with the front end that I haven't even done a proper tune up yet.

I've done a bunch of tinkering with the injection since I got the bike. I won't go into that here. Some of the stuff helped, and some did nothing at all. With that said, I used to have the push me light come on at almost EXACTLY 140 miles. That's 3.5 gallons,  with the 5 gallon tank. Since I did all the stuff I did, my push me light now comes on at about 175...I just ran 191 miles on a single tank of fuel, and the needle on the gauge is right in line with empty. When I went to Drift-In last year, over the 2500 miles in 6 days, I averaged 48 mpg....got as high as 52 a couple of times!

Ok I haven't asked a stupid question in almost a week so here goes. How many miles do you average per tank? As this bike is new to me I'm still figuring out the range.
