GVW and per axle weight are vital. Maximum load on a tire is calculated at max tire pressure... like 44 psi cold (ex). this pressure would be appropriate if you were putting the ENTIRE weight of the motorcycle on the one tire, or 1/2 the weight at the maximum speed..like 130 mph, but not BOTH...Most "cruisers" have a weight ratio of 60% rear, 40% front, so the GVW should take that into account. Sport bikes are typically about 50/50 weight distribution, to improve front end traction.  Keep in mind, under a hard braking situation, the entire weight of the motorcycle and rider(s) is concentrated on the FRONT wheel. I just went out and checked the load rating on my rear Michelin...908 lbs@42 psi, speed rating 130 mph. Well within the requirements of any normal motorcycle....Soooo, unless you plan to wheelie @ 130 mph on your Drifter for long periods of time, I think you're pretty safe.

Just wondering if you guys ever gave any tought to tire load limit. Metzeler 880 or 888 or conti are rated at 67 wich is roughly 680 lbs load limit at recommended speed. Bike weights about 600 pounds alone. Is ther something i'm missing here? Is the load split in two on each wheel?
