I used the support that came with the bags.  I think I would need to add a 1/4" spacer if I used the Fire and Steel supports to prevent the bags from rubbing on the fender support.

Bucko

Thanks for posting more pictures TW.

Did those metal supports (the ones you relocated) come with the bags?   Did you take a look at using the Fire & Steel Supports?

TripWire

As soon as the fender trim is done.

Yes they do have shock cutouts.  Only have about 40 miles on the bike with the new bags but so far no issues and no rubbing.  Hopefully the weather will be decent this weekend and I can get some better pics and then I will get them posted.

You'd better!  ;)

Order a set of the Viking bags (VLC900S) on Monday and they arrived on my doorstep Wednesday.  I order the set for the Classic, yeah the holes didn't line up so I threw a little shoe-goo in the original holes (those holes will never leak) and started over.  Did some measuring and test fitting with some help from the wifey and ended up drilling a new hole 1 1/4 higher than the original front hole.  Measured back for the rear hole and then down for the lower holes.  I could have probably mounted them a little bit lower but my last set of bags got a little two close to the pipes and yadda , yadda, yadda new bags for this season.

Here are a couple of pics - yeah my bike is a mess.  We purchased a new home the end of October and the bike has been out in the garage getting covered with saw dust during all my projects.  I will get some outdoor pics with better lighting posted when mother nature cooperates.

Hi Trip:

Do those bags have the shock cutouts or not ? (hard to tell from your photos).

Drift1

Tipwire , those bags look pretty dam good . I like the way the shape of the bag follows the fender .

that is why I park in the living room over the winter, so the bike stays clean....just saying.......

Those Viking bags look pretty nice and price seems pretty reasonable. I don't think you'd need the shock cutout with the factory bag supports and bag frames.  Can't remember for sure since It's been so long since I had the supports on.

capnconch

I don think they will work on the Drifter unless you have some kind of a fender rail to attach the mounts to. I knew they were too good to be true.

Osprey bags also have the shock cutout on them.

I went to their site.  Pretty pricey, but looks like good stuff.

I have not, but I like the shock cutout-  looks like a good feature.  Look pretty good on the bike.

Anyone out there try Viking saddlebags?  In the need for so bags for overnight (2\3 day) rides and don't want to break the bank.

Was thinking about something like these: http://www.vikingbags.com/kawasaki-vulcan-1500-classic-large-shock-cut-out-studded-motorcycle-saddlebags-6387-prd1.htm

The have the shock cutout which could be a nice feature.  Had to mount my current bags so far back to clear the shocks that i need to install small tail light.  Want to return to the stock taillights which means different bags.
