I swapped out the originals for iso grips about 10 years ago.  I don't recall having to cut anything.  I do recall a left hand thread - I guess that was only on the throttle side?

Any grip sets I have changed the throttle sleeve came with grip installed. (Harleys though) Are the grip sets for the Drifters different?

Vulcan stock grips are held on with a left hand thread grip cap - so you need to turn to the RIGHT to remove. The clutch side grip is glued to the bar. You can cut the grip or use a long shank narrow tip screw driver to work the glue loose.

The throttle side also has a cap but the grip is glued to a sleeve which floats on the bar. The best way to remove this grip, other than removing the sleeve is to cut the grip.

I've recently put the exact same grip on my 800 and had the same problem. Never been able to remove it so i've cu a part of the old grip to put arounnd the thread and build it up to the same size as the handle bar and hold that with tape, slide the grip on top been holding well. On the throttle side I had to grind off some of the plastic on the plastic moving part so that my grip would not look deformed!

I put a set of those barrel style grips on a couple of years ago. They were made to fit a Harley (any surprise?) I found that the left one when right on without issue, but the throttle tube was another thing, entirely. The tube that was in the isogrips that were on the bike to begin with (and I hated on sight) was smaller in diameter than the H-D grip, and the diameter of the H-D throttle tube was bigger than the hole in the switch pod on the bike. I decided to mod the tube, rather than the bike. I wound up wrapping the tube with good old fashioned friction tape to take up the extra space and then used the grip cement to hold the whole mess together...It's been holding for around 30,000 miles, so I guess it worked.

I know on my 800 I just left that there and slid the Kuryakyn ISO grips right over that and don't even know it is there.

Guess I'm not as lucky as you!  ;D    These rubber grips will fit and look better if I can remove the piece.

Hope Ratman will get me a shiny new rare Roadhouse exhaust system for my birthday.

GPS is not to get you THERE but rather to get you home from THERE

Installing some vintage style grips on oem bars.  On left side, can I remove the male threaded piece without cutting / damaging it?  I can't tell if it's threaded in, welded, or pressed.

On the right side, I haven't remove it yet, but I think it's plastic and I will need to just cut it off the throttle tube.
