Winter maintenance???

  I have a huge winter project list to start on once the bike is in the house. I can not say my bike has not been to the Dealer, had it there for replacing my tires last winter.
From Ventoracing's list;

- change spark plugs = will do when I do the valves
- clean and re-install air filter = normal fall job
- front and rear brake pads = going to do, also rebuild the calipers
- replace front and rear brake fluid = done last year and it was black
- flush/replace coolant = done last year, so it is good but will check the levels to be sure

So I'm proud to say that my 2002 Drifter 800 with 26+K on the clock has never had to be taken to the dealer for repairs, which I guess is a credit to how well these bikes are made... Obviously, I've maintained the bike with regards to oil, tires, chain...

This winter I plan to go over the bike from front to rear. Here is my current to-do list:

- change spark plugs
- clean and re-install air filter
- front and rear brake pads
- replace front and rear brake fluid
- flush/replace coolant

I wish I could do a valve adjustment, but I don't think I'm that skilled....

anything else I should consider preventive maintenance wise?

Change the oil, and considering the low cost of hydrolic fluid that's something to consider, any in line fuel filters can be changed where fitted and the old one cut in half lengthways to see if it has collected any rust or dirt, pressure wash under the fenders/mudguards to remove any dried mud that will trap moisture over winter and remove the battery, check levels where appropiate, and store on a wooden shelf, a coating of liquid wax over the paintwork, just applied not polished and the same with shoe polish over any leatherwork ready to polish when you are going to ride again..A spray of wd40 over any brightwork will keep it good for next year..

I ride mine all the year round so I don't practice what I preach.
