oil is normal, check gadgets website on how to tie the rear shocks together to balance them. replace the speedo cable with one for a nomad as they are approx. four inches longer and don't break under hard acceleration.

As has been mentioned, check the cable. And there is oil in the shock. You will get some oil out when you check the pressure or add air. Only use a proper shock pump - NOT a standard air hose.

As to your LED's/horns... we're online vendors so if you have excess stock and want to give us a deal drop me an email. Chief@saftek.com

Cheers.

Had the same thing on my '02 1500 when I was in Montana this spring; I talked to the mechanic at the Kalispell Montana Kawasaki dealership and he said it was normal as long as I wasn't losing any air pressure. (I wasn't)
Hope this tidbit helps.

Spedo is a mechanical unit on these 99's so it could be several items, but check the cable first.  The cable comes off the front wheel at a weird angle. It has a habit of breaking a few inches away from the wheel.  Of course it could be the front wheel unit itself that has ceised to work, but in all my years of servicing bikes, I have only seen 2 that the "sending unit" had failed, 99% of the rest it was the cable with the remaining few being a bad speedo unit itself.

Now as to the shocks-you mention when you checked the shocks some oil spit out.  I am presuming you still are running the original air shocks on the rear.  They were okay if you could find a way to keep them balanced.  I never did, and switched to progressive shocks and fork springs on the bike.  The ride improved immediately.  Also I would suggest if you ever change the fork oil on the bike-to change it over to ATF.  (Automatic Trans Fluid)  For years ATF was the standard fork fluid, before all the designer oils with their designer prices came about.  The benefits are-a slightly stiffer ride due to the ATF being slightly heavier weight than the standard fork oil.  I know that these bikes are heavy and anything that can take away the somewhat mushy response the front forks usually give, is welcome.

Hope this helps

Hi all, My name is Mike Conlisk and I just bought a '99 1500.   It is a blast.  I just took it to Hot Springs, AR and back to Pipe Creek (near San Antonio) and the only problem was the Speedo quit.  Any hints?

I have just started to check it out and add and replace things.  It is the original Color and I am going to take the seat (2-up) and have it recovered in brown, ditto the bags.  Plus going to the old school route and put fringe all over.

Now my questions.  Does the presence of oil when checking the pressure of the shocks mean their bad?  Also I would like to go back to the OEM muffler and exhaust system.  Or something like it in looks department.

Thanks,  Mike

P.S.  I just retired from the MC Rally Vendor Life as a LED and Air Horn dealer.  I still have a bunch of inventory left and will give great deals if I have the color you need.  Call or email anytime.
