Sounds like a good plan for my next tire.  However, I believe you previously said they don't come in WWW?   That would mean buying 2 when I really only need 1, or going with WWW front and BW rear - that sounds hideous....

I very happy with the tires. I was concerned with Michelins to start with since I never found a car tire that they made to worth much, especially in the rain. I stole the picture from Laura McNeely's site, so you could see the kind of precipitation I rode the mountain twistys in that finally convinced me the tires are good in the rain, too!

on my commute to and from work I drive past 3 tire places and always get a charge out of their signs, buy 3 get one free, and the price. Well I want to see the sign that has the say as follows,

buy one tire for (price) and get 3 for free.

and the price is the same for both, wonder which would sell faster or more tires?

Please don't miss-understand.  I am extremely interested.  That's why I asked the serious question:  Unless I miss-understand, Sounds like you are extremely satisfied with them?  I'm going to need a rear tire, prob by the end of the year, or spring, so I AM interested.

So, to boil it down, Troll, this sounds like you're extremely happy with the Mich's?  Or is this overstating it?

BTW, that's some great attire on your bike...   (groan).....

It's been a year and about 10,500 miles since I put on the Michelin Commander IIs. The tread depth is 6.5/32 of an inch. At this rate, when the tire is worn to 2/32, I should have about 16,000  more miles. Averaging 4200 miles on 1/32. The front tire has 1/32 off it, for 4/32 tread depth. Best part, besides the mileage/traction/handling...the tread is not getting choppy on the front or the rear!
We are having a ride in bike show on the 25th, so I took the bike apart to get it clean, and it's an excuse to ride the "W" more. Figured I'd take a picture of the tire while it's apart.

For WWW tires, Avons are super sticky.  They aren't cheap though, and because they are a softer compound (thats what makes them sticky), they tend to wear out a little sooner.  Metzler 880's are great, just avoid old brazilian made backstock from a couple of years ago.  They had "issues".  Those issues seem to be corrected now.  (It'll say on the side of the tire where and when it's made.)  I have one on the back now and it's plenty sticky and holds up pretty well.  The only others I've tried are Continental Milestones.  They look great and last FOREVER!  (I have 25,000 miles on my front tire and there's still enough tread to maybe make it through the summer.  The rear got almost 15,000 miles before it was due for replacement.)  It's a harder compound, so it's not as sticky, but the bang for the buck is hard to beat.  They also have a bit more sidewall material in them, so load capacity is a little better (if you ever ride 2up or gear up for trips).

But not many people buy a bike to only ride in dry weather because we have a lot of rain so keeping ww tires clean is a full time job so there is not a very big market for them.

You only have a limited number of white wall tires in the correct size to choose from so it might be a matter of sacrificing quality for looks..not many riders in Britain use white wall tires and even some of those that do have painted black walls white..

That's interesting, John.  just out of curiosity, why would they pay more for WWW just to go to all the work to paint them black?  Something to occupy their time when it rains?
