The saddlebag struts are aluminum...F&S or otherwise.

Never noticed before.

There are no part #'s on these struts or hoops; hard to tell who made them, but these hoops are definitely aluminum. I suppose they would work just as good, though...

The support loops are steel, at least mine are. I bought aftermarket ones for an 800 and put them on my "W", and genuine F&S ones for the Drifter...can't tell them apart!

This is the first set I've seen, other than pics, so had no idea what they were made of. Were the "hoops" that bolt to them also aluminum? The ones that came with these struts are aluminum. Hopefully someone wants them,(the hoops) or otherwise into the scrap barrel with them.....

I'm thinking that is a J only part. The saddlebag struts are aluminum...F&S or otherwise. Mine are chromed, but the chrome is peeling.

I didn't think it was an OEM part. When I removed those two small bolts, there was a bushing through the bolt hole, when that was removed, the holes were the same size and pitch as the rear mounting holes. So took out the threaded bushings in the plastic part and the ends of the 10 mm bolts set nicely in the holes in the plastic part. I think that plastic part is more to hide the battery from view than to protect the fender.

That doesn't sound like a Fire & Steel part.  Also, that's curious about the fender guard......I don't have that.  The two bolt holes on mine are the same size (17mm) and the only difference between them is the bolt length.

Brackets are on...not sure if these are OEM, but don't think so; are made from a lightweight material like aluminum. :)

Okay, got it figured. Looks like that plastic piece is possibly an option. When I remover the small bolt(seen in second pic) there was an insert bushing (seen in pic with bolt) that protects the threads in the hole in the frame. That hole is threaded to the strut mounting bolt. That was what was confusing me; when I looked at the pics of PCarrells strut mount, there is no plastic shield, and the larger bolts were shown.  ??? See attached pics. First pic, circled in red shows the bolt and location. Second pic shows the bolt and insert. Third pic shows numbers on plastic shield or whatever it is called.

Was busy tonight on the honey-do list; will post some pics tomorrow. When I look at the pics PCarrell posted on the
"Saddlebag Mounting Setups and Hardware Sources" page in Mods/Tips, it is the top front bolt. Om mine, it is a very small bolt, and it goes through the frame and into an ear on the plastic fender guard under the seat. Pics tomorrow, will make sense to all then. :)

So, got my saddlebag brackets today. It looks like the small hole where the bolt goes through to hold the plastic fender guard needs to be drilled out; am I correct in assuming this? Would hate to drill it out if not necessary.

Thanks in advance;
Regards,

My brackets/struts bolt directly to the seat frame. I can't picture what exactly your talking about. Maybe I don't have a plastic fender guard...

49Reo

No pics yet, Troll, the small bolt on each side that holds the plastic fender guard under the seat. There is one small bolt on each side that looks to line up with the hole on the bracket.

I only have 1 set and I run them with both the solo and the 2-up seat. Nobody told me they wouldn't work, so I just put them on.

Hi, all, does anyone know if the saddlebag struts for a 2-up seat fit on the stock solo seat set-up?
Thanks in advance;
