Anybody done a chrome piece delete on rear fender?

Yeah, search for an older thread of mine...I took off the original fenders and put on some FLH Fenders instead of buying a Corbin two up because I was cheap. Me and my grandfather did all the fab work. Total cost was about $300 even.  Bike sat for too long and ruined some carb parts. Got gas in the oil now so I have to drain, change and swap out the plugs. I figure it'll just be good karma making it a drifter again and I love that look the best.

NH! Depending on how fast I sell my mustang. I'm having to re-purchase every fender and bolt to put back on, prime and paint etc.

I don't know how soon you are planning to do this but I'll try to find some time to take the rear fender off and post some pics of the brackets so you can see how it was done. Pretty straight forward from what I saw of them. I didn't do them myself, I had my mechanic fashion the brackets and license plate. I have an '02 1500. Does anyone know if the fender/tire/axle assembly the same on the 800? It will be easier for THL to copy the brackets if it is.

800, naturally. Nhtrikes, I might try and fab a bracket underneath.  I have a tombstone tail light that has a plate bracket attached already and I don't mind drilling holes to place turn signals.

Good point,Troll.What model bike are we talking about here anyways?I'm thinking with either or your going to want some type of inner bracket.

Not sure if THL is trying not to put the rear fender guard w/bumpers back on or just leave the bumpers off but I just posted pics of the mods done on my bike over the winter in the Drifter Pictures. I like a clean look so had a set of internal brackets made and mounted on the inside of the rear fender and removed the rear fender guard assembly. Had a new simple plate holder assembly made to hold new directionals and left the brake light intact. Don't know if that will help or not?

So, are you talking about a 1500 or an 800...they are different. Like I said, you could probably make some kind of internal framework to support the fender, but you will need something...

No, you do not need that vertical cover. It is just a cover. Under it is the mounting frame of the turn signals. (if we are talking about the same thing )
This cover was introduced with the chrome version of the Drifter.

That's what's holding the rear fender on...I suppose you could make some kind of internal framework, but remember how easy it is to remove the fender the way it is now.

Ok let's try this, it's black on here however, mine was chrome. It's the piece that the rear turn signals attach to and the bracket that piece is mounted to as well.

I'm not sure what your refering to here either,THL?If your refering to the "bumper"that the rear tail lights also atatch to,I've seen plenty of Drifters without it.Gives that plain big fender look.If you Google Drifter images you'll see a few right off the bat without this.Olive of course the I've bike,has round tail light,right to the fender with smaller blinkers fixed to each side.

  Sorry seem to be missing some info here but yes the rear fender is held on with the bracket and a couple of small screws into the frame....

I'm not sure on the 800, but on the 1500 that bumper holds up the back of the fender, and I believe it does on the 800 too...

Well, it's more or less I'm not going to buy the rear chrome piece if its not needed. I think it's ugly/don't want to buy it if I don't have to.

Are you talking about the rear bumper assembly?  If so, just leave the bumperette's off and have the rest powdercoated.

Going to go back to original design but I'll have to buy new fenders. Should've never messed with it. Engine will have to be drained and a fuel leak found to see why it's getting fuel in the jugs. Anyway, thoughts on the chrome piece?  I have  plenty of lights and turn signals.
