I noticed that as soon as I got it... but it kind of falls under the "superstition" thing. Besides, it seems to make the Ratman happy....I think that guy needs to get a hobby....or a friend....or something....

Nashville was kind of what I was thinking, due to proximity to where I'm at.  I didn't know what to consider the "line" though - thanks for that info.

Arizona is usually a good place to pick up rust-free(or close to it) vehicles. My father bought a Model A Tudor, all original, from Arizona. After 80+ years, 2 small holes in the body......and no rust prevention medications used in those days! A friend of mine used to pick up a car a year and bring back to Canada; he bought them all in Arizona.

I love Arizona and have friends there I used to work with that I would love to see.  Just can't justify the distance.

I've lived a lot of places where rust was a problem. With modern undercoating and metal prep its not so bad in most places. Tennessee is a good area... relatively close. Likely anyplace south of Louisville KY... except along the coast would be good.  There are rust buckets here, but they are rare.

not sure of what they use in 0hi0 for the roads, but here they use it a lot too, I have found that the Brine/Salt/Whatever. I have found that as long as the temps are below 0 the salt is not active to rusting, so just move north and stay were it is cold......

Yep, they use both salt and brine here. I just wish someone would publish a study on the actual bottom line cost to the taxpayer for the wear and tear on the automobiles....  I know we could get by with using a WHOLE LOT less.

Yes, I've spent a considerable amount of time in AZ travelling for a previous job - definitely premo automobiles.  There are still a lot of 70's vehicles still in daily use out there that look in similar condition to our 2000's stuff here.   Unfortunately, like TX, a little farther than I wanted to go.

I'm looking to perhaps purchase a truck or two in the near future.  Problem is, here in Ohio they spray that blasted brine all over the roads whenever there is any chance of two snowflakes.  As a result many vehicles here start showing extreme corrosion and body rust within a few years.

So I'm considering going south to find better quality.  Can anybody give me some input, based on where you live, on where to look or just as importantly where to avoid?

I'm currently thinking of centering my search around Nashville, or Asheville TN.  This seems to me to be the closest place to my location (central OH) for driving distance where I think there isn't as much winter snow and salt usage.  THen the search would naturally pan out to the carolinas, ala, etc. (I usually use searchtempest, and autotrader and a few others.)

My oldest son recently bought a 7 year old truck in TX - good price, great condition but a long way to go.  I'd like to end up closer.

So am I missing anywhere closer/better?  Low price markets?  Flood of used vehicles?  Michigan seems to have a lot of vehicles, a lot of trucks, but they also get a lot of snow like us.

Speaking of floods, obviously, places to avoid are important - like it's probably good to avoid New Orleans and other areas that have experienced recent flooding.
