Hey IBI-UBU,

I did have my carbs rejetted. It was recommended to switch for the dynojet stage 1. I swapped for those and the bike is running great. Pretty loud though. I'm worried I may need to find a way to quiet them down so I don't get harrassed by the law.

Hey montreal_drifter....
I have rode quite a few miles with my new pipes....guess I lucked out...no popping on decal....had her checked out anyways... and everything is fine...no rejetting needed...no a/f mixture adjustments needed....and she's running like a rat from a cat...
and getting compliments on the bike everywhere I go....

mumbles

If keeping stock airbox no rejetting is required.

Adjusting the a/f mixture screw will help if popping through pipes during decel occurs.

David Poirier

Helps quite a bit.  Any rejetting afterwords??

The pipes on the pic are oem exhaust pipes for the Vulcan 800.
The mufflers were cut off where they meet at the head pipes.

The fishtails were a complete exhaust from a Harley Softail.
They were measured and cut to length and welded to the Vulcan 800's header pipes.

Brackets had to be made for the rear.
Hope this helps.

David Poirier

Thats the look I'm going for!!! Thanks for the info!!!

topherloaf

They are the same. People on Kawasaki forum have confirmed they're a swap.  Brackets wise there are some differences though.

Dave,

The pipes on my Drifter are aftermarket but I would think the diameter of the header pipe of the Drifter and the VN800A are the same. If so I have the pipes off a VN800A and the o.d. is 1 5/8". Auto Parts stores have muffler reducers you can use.

Hope this helps...

David Poirier

Don't want to, just remove the muffler and add the fishtails if thats possible.

Can anybody tell me the diameter of the header pipes, 1.75" or 2 ?"  I 've got a good deal on some fishtails and trying to figure out if the size will fit.  Don't want to take off the muffler, that would cause me to lose riding time.

Are you planning on cutting the stock exhaust and adding the fishtails?

If you are riding in Quebec, Canada you Better be carefull with your loud pipe. Since 2012 there's been a pilot project going on to reduce noise pollution from motorcycle. The police are now equipped with state of the art new sonometer, and you can get a 200$ ticket ig your exhaust is louder than 90db at idle, or 100db at 2500rpm.

I'm running HardKrome American Classic II's on my 800 drifter.  Without having to make mods to another vendor's pipes, this one was relatively painless to install.  Everything fits perfectly, no mods needed.  Just some nuts and bolts (those were a bitch due to where they were situated).  Otherwise, easy install and they are f-ing loud.  Beautiful sound...maybe a little on the loud side but I like that.  I have a picture posted in the general discussion board.

Hey Montreal_Drifter...question for ya...I have a set of pipes coming...they're posted in this section...look alot like yours..just not from HardKrome...did you have to do any rejetting on your carb when you switched over...I live in SE Missouri where the weather is  ::)bi-polar(not a slam against anyone who is)Summers...HOT & HUMID...winters...ah it's winter...fall and spring...ya just never know what to expect
Thanks...just wanting to get my ducks in a row...and know what I'm getting into...

IBI-UBU

BUT...Today I bought these pipes....

They are Road Burner 2.5" Street Pro's.

2.5' diameter outer pipe.

1.75" inner pipe.

Features True Double Wall Construction.( US Patent # 6,908,980)

CNC Machined billet end caps.

Baffles included.

All mounting hardware included.
AND they warranty their pipes against discoloring for one year

I really like that look....I hope it was a good buy....This is the first time I have ordered parts myself...Emmett always found the parts...then I ordered them...and it was always for the HD...SOOOO....if ya'll have any type of input on these...good or bad....PLEASE tell me...

I have heard about some drilling out thier stock exhaust but I don't know anything about it. I too would like to have an exhaust system somewhere in the middle of stock and straight pipes. Just a low rumble, not so loud that I can't hear my mp3 player .
In my younger days I wanted as loud as it would go....Ive mellowed out over the years.  ;D

We did that to the one I have...it didn't change the sound enough to notice.... ???

I just recently completed installing a set of V&H Cruzers.  They're not made for the mounting set-up of the stock drifter exhaust, but it really only took a few simple mods, and the fabrication of a simple steel bracket plate.  These pipes sound incredible, lightened the bike by about 15-20 lbs.  I will say that I love the fishtail style, but the stock exhaust is just unsafe, cars don't hear you, and you don't hear yourself.

I plan on posting pictures and process steps on the mod page as soon as I have time for it.
