Correct me plese if I am wrong about my US of A history, but I was told if you were a member of the original the Watauga Association, a 1772 frontier pact generally regarded as the first constitutional government west of the Appalachians, then you were exempt from paying taxes.

but I could be mistaken, but I think if you were a member of said board you should not have to pay taxes, so I feel for you having to pay taxes....

No I think that is wrong I know we have a law that if you are over 75 and can prove both your grandparents are still living with you, and that you are directly related to Noah, you get a 5% discount on your first parking ticket of the year.

Watauga... nahhh.... they still considered themselves subjects of the British Crown (despite written notions to the contrary) - at least until they came to their senses... it didn't last long as they were eventually swallowed up by State and county governments around 1776. Property taxes are levied by the county and/or State. Some states like Tennessee have very low rates. Some states, like anywhere run by liberals - NY NJ CA IL etc. have very high property taxes.

You have to remember, taxes was one of the reasons we decided to fire Britain. It may not seem like it now, but back then we believed the money we earned was our own.

Tennessee has no income taxes and low property taxes - we fought off a income tax by liberals back in 2000 and have since made the prohibition part of our Constitution. All those guys were told to stay home and we replaced them with folks who could manage our finances. Tennessee is very conservative with the exception of the Memphis/Shelby County area and a few scattered districts in Nashville area.

Britain never met a tax it didn't like. I can remember the "brain drain" days when anyone making any sort of income migrated out of the UK to Canada, NZ, Australia and the USA. Sorta like what some of the French are starting to do right now.

Yeah we get a lot of nudity license is about £150 but it goes up by about 8% each year..but if you want real porn you can't get much better than a Drifter..they are a lot harder to see than nudes.

Billy Connelly was a Welder, then a folk singer, then a comic, and now a presenter.

I preferred the UK version of that one, actually. 90% of the shows on BBC1, BBC2 and STV back then were crap... went off about 10pm... but the other 10% were exceptionally good. Nowadays there are 400 channels of crap ... the exceptionally good ones don't seem to last.

There is/was one UK show... Life on Mars... I like the brit version, but didn't care much for the USA version.

I think you spoiled that..the joke was that Robin Trip the man about house was straight and everyone knew it except the idiot landlord, he just pretended to be gay so that he could live with the girls..in the American version he was gay.

Some British humour (humor?) doesn't travel across the pond..

  We have the same problem here.  They even have a TV show called "I didn't know I was pregnant".  That's how many large, unknowingly-pregnant women we have here.  . . . enough to make a TV show.
