Seats...(sure it's been covered, But I can't find it)

Ya know, after all my research and bouncing around different ideas, I'm probably going with the Corbin, especially since it has been confirmed that my bags will in fact work with the 2up. The Corbin has a wider back seat for her and what makes Cece more comfy, makes me more comfy. I also didn't realize the options for backs rests for the Corbin were so many. That helps a bunch. Back rests made to fit the Corbin seat are available for for a lot less than buying one outright from Corbin. Many people on here seem to really like them.

I have a 2-up seat with a backrest and a luggage rack---I am asking $300 the seat is covered in a gold/brown aligator texture.  just throwing it out there? :-)

The OEM brackets for the saddlebags will not work with the Corbin solo because of the shape of the pan. I never was talking about the Corbin 2 up!!

I have the corbin 2 up and the stock solo saddle and the stock saddle bags work with both, no problem.  Tim

The shape of the pan at the rear does nor allow it to drop down far enough to attach the angle brackets to the frame with the saddle bag brackets on. I don't see how reversing the bolts would do anything to make it fit.

I don't know either, that's  just what he told me. In fact he said he's done it three times.  I looked at it and on my bike with the luggage rack, it would be a heachache to do everytime I wanted to switch to a solo seat.

I like the look of the Corbin. But it's expensive ad when I consider the cost of the passenger back rest AND the cost of new brackets for the saddle bags AND the U support bracket it makes my head spin. I'll probably go with the OEM 2up. I've also contacted a local bike shop who will mod the OEM seat and re-cover the seat. Still a couple hundo cheaper than a Corbin.

Yes, that's how it works. The bags are connected to struts that connect under the back of the seat. They do the same job as the frame rails that support the fender and bags on a Nomad/Classic, but the fender is attached to the swing arm, and thus moves with the suspension...This whole setup was universally panned by the "motorcycle press" when it was introduced, but when Harley copied it (Rocker "C") it was the greatest thing since rubber tires...By the way, if you think the 2-up seat on a Drifter is ugly...look at the folding spoon on a rocker.....

While I'll acknowledge your point and concede that you my be right, I love my stock solo seat.  It's probably the most comfortable seat I've ever had on a bike.  On the other hand, I have a Fire & Steel 2up that was like sitting on a park bench it was so hard.  I ended up pulling the cover and hogging it out to add some gel pads, then putting the cover back on.

   just have to add and I know I don't have a 1500 but seems to be a lot of talk about the seats on the 1500's and how uncomfortable they are. Now I have the OME seat on my 800 and it is really comfortable and fits my backside just perfect. So I am wondering how come the seats on the 1500 are so uncomfortable or is it really that the riders of a 1500 need to get smaller backsides........

That frame is pretty solid.  If anything, the weakest link in the setup is the bolts that attach the saddlebag struts to the frame.  For that, some good old grade 8 bolts will do quite well.

I am thinking this arrangement would greatly limit the payload you could carry in the bags then, due to the stress on that seat frame.  But I guess then again, you wouldn't be filling them with rocks.

I do not know enough yet about how you mount bags, but my impression is the bags would be stationary with the seat and when going over a bump, the rear fender would travel up between the bags, since they aren't connected to it.  Is that right?  Like I said, I don't fully understand how the bags are mounted.

I just got off the phone with a tech from Corbin. He told me that if I reversed the bolts on the saddlebag brackets (bolt head on the inside) that the seats will fit. I can't understand at all why the solo seat would not fit with the bags.

I have the Corbin solo seat and the OEM saddlebag brackets will not work with it. You have to use brackets like the ones sold by Osprey. I would assume the same goes for the Corbin 2 up.

The corbin two up requires the same horseshoe bracket as the oem two up and the F&S two up.

Okay, this looks like the exact same setup I have. Except there is a spacer inbetween the saddlebag bracket and the frame. I bet (not much, like five buck cause I'm not much of a gambler) this bike was sporting a 2up at some point.

This is the 2up horse shoe bracket with the saddlebag brackets mounted.  This is what it looks like when you just take the 2up seat off.  (No Seat Rail)

I even tried posting one pic at a time. Anywho, this sounds like good news. It is possible I can buy a oem 2up, cover it with a Mustang cover and NOT have to drop or mod my bags because it works with the horseshoe bracket. Am I seeing/reading this right?
