Has anyone mounted a Stebel Nautilus on their 800?

I mounted it on my 2005 Drifter 800. I made my own mounting bracket. It works great.

I was attempting to wire a completely separate horn button and horn using the relay and the diagram above, but I'm not getting anywhere. I know I have everything grounded and wired correctly, and I'm guessing it's my separate horn button that's got me stuck. I traced the original horn button wire that goes into a wiring harness that connects to a box next to the junction box and decided I didn't want to risk yanking it out and screwing something up. I took the horn/signal/ light switch box on the handlebar apart and the only horn button wire I could find is a black and white colored wire and a yellow and black wire. Does anyone know the exact color of the horn button wire, are there two of them, do I pull it out of the wiring harness and if so-how? Would I splice extra wire to the horn button wire to add some length to get to the relay? Please advise me! Thanks.

There's really only one way to connect the relay. First, you should have a 30a relay, IMHO. I mounted mine in the battery compartment.

IF you look at the relay, you will see numbered posts.

Attach the original left horn wires to the relay terminals #85 and #86 (it doesn't matter which wire
to which terminal).

Attach a wire from the battery or accessory connector to #30 (I installed an inline fuse here as well).

Attach #87 to horn.

I got a relay today (40 amp/12V) And I'm lost on how to connect this thing. I've looked at a diagram that came w/my horn and from the info i've read on different sites there's a lot of conflicting ways to hook this up. Where do I connect and store the relay... in the headlight or under the tank? Any help would be appreciative, Thanks!

Got a Nautilus on my 1500 and fittted it on the frame. I don`t care if it looks ugly but it is bloody loud !

I bought a new ooogah horn today. Is there specific type of relay I should be using and should I get a bigger fuse?  I'm new to working w/ electrics on a bike and I want to do it right. Also what could happen if I just hooked up the old horn w/out using a relay?

Yep,  on these bikes you could mount a chrome plated wart on them and they'd still look good. 

Kidding aside, these bikes leave a lot of room for individual tastes... get a few together and you see how very different and individual they can be made to look. The diversity is what really interests me about these bikes over some others. And, we didn't buy the bike to be one of the crowd... if you like it go for it... there are no ugly drifters... just ugly drifter riders....

I have a Stebel on my Nomad. It is on the downtube where the original horn was mounted. I didn't see a need to  hide it. Looks OK to me. Form follows function.

Has anyone ever used or mounted up an "ooga" horn? - Likes, dislikes? I've been looking on ebay for an old one but don't want the thing too long and I'd like it to actually work, I've also seen them at harbor freight as well but they look a bit too big.
Also, when I do mount a different horn, if it's a 12 volt do I just mount the horn up to the existing horn wires and do I need to add any kind of extra fuse or relay?

They aren't that big, you don't hide them, they are true air horns - you do hide the compressor, and they fit the style of the drifter... ie vintage/retro.

I have seen these installed on vulcans... ensure you use a proper relay - if you blow the horn switch you'll be out a bundle to replace the whole cluster.

I prefer at least two notes - they seem to be louder and get more attention. - but that may just be me. The ones on my truck combined with the oem sound like a train horn.

I was thinking of going with this:

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and for my money I'd rather try and hide the 139 decibel Stebel than those Rivco monsters.  I can attest to the effectiveness of the stebel on errant cagers... they start looking for the 18 wheeler that "honked" them!  On the 800, I may be able to use the helmet lock location for the mounting spot.  Stebel (WOLO) can be had pretty cheap at Harbor Freight.  Mike in TX

Agreed, the Stebel isn't very pretty.  They do make a chrome model now but it just becomes something else to keep shiny.  I may remove mine from the KLR and try to find a suitable mounting point.  Mike in TX  BTW: What's a Rivco??

I have one on my TRUCK!... but prefer the Rivco's (we sell) on the bike... have the chrome version on the bike. The Stebel's are butt ugly and would have to be hidden IMHO! <g>

Trying to find out if anyone has mounted one of these excellent horns on the 800?  I've mounted one behind a fairing panel on my KLR650 and it wakes drivers up!  BTW: Harbor Freight sells their copycat under the WOLO name, and it's identical for around $35 with a relay included.  Mike in TX
