Thanks for the replies. This is a DIY project and I don't have access to glass bead, but I do have a good sander. Would a rough low grit sanding do the trick?

Anytime you paint chrome adhesion is a problem,we glass bead the metal to rough it up ( NOT SANDBLAST ) then use laquer thinner to clean the metal , you will then need a can of ETCH PRIMER bought at any auto body paint supplier they will have it . If you have someone that can shoot it with shop paint that would be best but it can still be done by can if you have to go that route , to get a smooth paint job out of a can , etch prime , wet sand , paint , wet sand, paint again but don't bust through the paint then clear coat . Just remember wet sanding will make it smooth and good paint should give you what you want . I'm assuming you are going to do this yourself so I tried to make it easy for you.    Rick

like any chromed product you'd need to do some good prep and use suitable paint.

I would like to paint the air filter cover on my bike, I know it gets fairly warm so I think a high heat paint would work like a grill paint.... has anyone done this or think it would last?
