New mud flaps - advice on installing

Yeah, I guess you could make several different sets of mudflaps and easily swap them out as the mood strikes you......never thought of that!  OK, now the grey matter is in gear!

You just have to clean the inside of the fenders REALLY good first, or it won't stick.  Makes for a cleaner looking install if you ask me.

Did some research on this and 3m 's  dual lock ( a type of industrial outdoor Velcro like product) has 4x the sticking power of regular industrial Velcro. They explain their products as mating mushroom heads that click when installed.

It seems like a good alternative..... Frank's leathers provides Velcro for all of their mudflaps.

E6000 is made by Eclectic Products, in Pinevile, La.

I used to work for them, I was head of small package shipping, then transferred to head of solvent free production.

(they also make shoe-goo, seal all, and nail hole filler among MANY other things)

Oh FYI, Seal all, will patch holes in metal gas tanks and withstand the gasoline after it sets.

I attached my flaps with industrial strength velcro and some E6000 glue (like Barge's glue).  They've been on there for 6 years, riding through all kinds of weather.  (No holes and I can easily re-position them or take them off to redye them if needed)

Nice thing about plastic fenders... The drill bit doesn't skate! (as long as you go slow... lol)

 lol wait till you do drill into it...big peice of plastic, sound and feels really different then metal, close would be drilling your cowling on a snow machine.

Picked up some concho screws for the mudflaps from Tandy.... Thanks for the suggestion.... When completed I will send some pics around.  Still a little nervous about drilling into my fenders.... They look like new.... Is it measure 20 times and drill once?  Lol

Thanks for the suggestion Bake.   There is a store located close to me and I will check this option out.  The concho seems more attractive than the homedepot bolts I was considering.....

NTL, Check out "Tandy Leather" they have some great Concho backs that are threaded and come with a screw, They'll attach to the inside of the fender giving the leather more surface support, Then you only need a small stainless washer along with the screw for the outside of the fender. Hi everyone

Just received a matching set of mudflaps from Osprey.... They match my seat and bags.   They are neat thick leather ones but they don't have any holes pre arranged for installation.  Any thoughts on install?   I was thinking of making a template of cardboard / paper prior to drilling.  What's it like to drill in the fender?   Thinking of using small stainless steel acorn bolts with washers on front and back......  Not sure of the size of bolt.
