How about pouring half a can of injector cleaner into a full tank to see if that frees up whatever mechanical float they used?  Might just be a bit of gum.  I like to do this before putting mine away for the winter and then run out that tank with any impurities that dissolve over the winter.
My 1999 gauge shows half full when 3/4 of the tank is empty and then drops through the last half very quickly.

1] take off the tank, check wires going to sending unit and gas gauge

2] or you have a bad or stuck sending unit inside tank

3] my neighbor has same problem with his 1999 1500 drifter

well....maybe i should just ignore it as i've been doing and gas up every 100...no problem ...just didn't know if it was a known problem.

thanks for all the replies

Mine says full full full full full until the gas light comes on, then it drops like a rock.  My Harley used to do the same thing.

nice ride varooom the big 80 keep doing it turned 70 0n the 00 an 10 on the 99

tmassey

as far as i can tell...nothing has been rewired.

Varooom

I've found that, if you rewire the turn signals from where they are to the spare lead under the seat, the gas gauge indicates twice what is actually in the tank.  (Was investigating a turn signal problem caused by a security system installed by my dealer)
Rewired, it works fine and I hit 80,000 miles today cruising the turning leaves in upstate New Hampshire.  85 degrees and pure Nirvana,

PS: Still don't have a right turn signal!
