Engine Guards for 800 - Again

Just as a heads up,  I had he engine guard from Guido installed on my drifter, everything was great and I put about 2000 miles on his year since I got it. I tend to ride somewhat aggressively and have no issues with touching down a floorboard in a corner. Last night I was heading home from work,  took a turn and touched down what I thought was he floorboard slider only to suddenly feel a hard bump to my ankle and difficulty shifting. I safely pulled the bike to the side of the road to check it out. The engine guard had hit the ground hard and bent back pinching  the floorboard up. I removed the engine guard today and aside from needing a new mounting bolt the rest of the bike is fine. After removing it and inspecting that had happened I noticed that both sides were previously scratched. Upon further inspection I realized that the engine guard is the first part to touch down and does not give like the floorboards do.

Thanks KW....dude I had the bike down to basically nothing at one point. The PO took good care of this machine and I assured him I would do the same,if not more.Being I wanted the WWW's for that old school look as well to match the white star to try to make it stand out more.I figured I could really get in the tight spots to clean and hit with some wax.Well you know how it goes your brain starts spinning It's wheels,then I was introduced to the forum and saw great ideas that members were sharing and realized even though I'm "no mechanic" I could explore,to comfort zone limitations of course,and if I get jammed up I'd just yell for help.Witch everyone knows I did quite often....LOL...and thank you members. Next thing you know I have parts coming in from every direction.I'm still waiting on things 

For the fender light,the reason I didn't go all black IMOP It's just to big and to much black.The one I purchased is smaller,the chrome goes with the other chrome on the bike such as rims,headlight ring etc.Now the fender light is not just chrome there's black accent in the head dress to match.The reason It's not on at the moment is because I don't like the fact that it stays on during the day so I'm adding an on/off switch for night time use.

Ratman....I actually looked at those lights,in fact I brought one home one weekend,it was just way to big.

blacked out spot lights or perhaps see about getting a blackout drive light......like this one...really give it that pop....

Drift1 - The black bull bar really finishes it off nice. Also like how the protekto trim on the fenders came out. Even though my paintwork is black, I think the fenders need that trim to improve the finished look. I'll do black on black when I have a reason to take the fenders off.

BTW...I notice the fender light is missing...too shiny? Maybe a little wartime "black out" might do the trick (to the head dress). In my opinion, looks good as is with that front guard. Altogether...very nice. Looking thru the whole photo bucket...hats off to getting it all back together without any extra pieces in time for riding season....Happy Easter.

Nice Drifter1, I like the look of your bike. The engine guard looks great on it.
I emailed Ted back in the early part winter and he was down south and put me on his pending list for one of the racks. I haven't heard from him since. Let us know what you find out.

1)rear fender rack
2)rear crash bars

Both in black of course.I'm on his waiting list,think I'm going to email him just for an update and a reminder.

LMAO.....Ratman it was like two teenager's in this house this morning.I droped the bar off to my brother's place during the week with my truck after work because he just got his tank back from being painted so we figured we could do both projects at his house then go for a ride when the weather broke.So this morning I had to ride the Drifter over to install it.Now being I ride solo seat Aidan insisted he would follow with "HIS"bobber...LOL.For awhile there(during the argument)you would of thought I was arguing with my brother not a 6 yr. old....man it was hillarious,till we woke up the miss's

Harley riders all know loc-tite. Safety wire is a good thing, too. When they came out with wick-and-seal, the world rejoiced....

As ratman says...Blue allows for removal with handtools, red requires heat to remove the part, and green can be applied after you assemble the part. It makes its way between the threads and acts like red loctite at that point. So use blue.

  easy way is that locktite is to keep parts together and not to separate due to vibration. Blue is for items you would like to take apart by hand tools, red is more permanent and harder to take apart........

ok never heard of it, or what it is.

I put the plastic caps in with black silicone as I said before but did it off the bike to just make it easier. I'll have to check out the pegs idea later once I have it out and riding about....

Thank you for all the help. The horn mount has bolts is it right now so I am under the impression that I can reuse those. If not I will figure something out. This is my first go at working on a bike, but I am reasonably mechanically inclined. Just out of curiousity what is the difference in the fifteenth Colorado loctiite?

It never hurts to use locktite... just ensure you use BLUE and not RED or Green.

 Ok well that will leave you something less to do. Just make sure the holes are not stripped and will take bolts. I used loctite on any nuts/bolts I remove....(old Harley riding habits die hard) Just remember that that Guido's guard is to be loose mounted first, once all the bolts are started and the everything is lined upo then snug them up tight.
Also remember to install the end caps with silicone, I used black just because it was handy and mine is a black front end.

Thanks. I looked at the bike and it looks like the first owner moved the horn already Bc all I saw was a nice place to mount the engine guards. I need the highway pegs as I am a big guy (6'4" 280lbs) and I am riding to DC from my home near Boston for memorial day. I havve never worked on my bike before, but I figured out how to take the tank off on my own so I figure bar install should be no problem. One more question, should I put loctite on the bolts for the guard? Also I did read the whole thread and the pictures look great.

  Welcome, I ordered mine from Guido and had them in like 2 weeks delivery time was realy fast to me in Canada, and it was surprising, the bars are realy awesome.
Like D1 said a small mod for the horn if you want to keep the original horn in the same location. Install was about 45 mins, and remember the plugs otherwise it will be a water collector.
Pegs I have not gotten that far either, and not sure if I need them, want to try them out first, but any clamp on ones that have a clamp that will fit the bar should work really well or you could drill the bars and use a screw mount type.

MMEDUR,if my memory serves me correctly mine took a little over 2 wks.It's probably going to be different time frames being us Drifter riders are scattered all over this planet.If you haven't read the previous threads,they are a nice looking bar little mod for the horn bracket and adhesive for the plugs.As far as the highway pegs there's some here on  the forum store.I myself haven't gotten that far in my winter projects...LOL.....Also go to the introduction section and introduce yourself to the forum,if you having done so already,be sure to post a pic of your ride......

I just ordered those bars from Guido the other day. How long did it take to get them? Also do you have any reccomendations on highway pegs?
