lol joined in 84 / 82.......by then I was a Cpl and Section Commander...and back from my first overseas tour.......

but we are all the same for it...better.....

I joined the Army in '84. I was a 13Fox, a Forward Observer (You know....the idiot who crawls behind enemy lines, gets on the radio and says, "Hey guys! Shoot over here!"). 2 months later I was back on the streets. Seems the doc's didn't think my lungs measured up, so I got a medical discharge. Didn't really want to leave, but it wasn't up to me.

Nothing but honor and respect for those that did get to serve!

I was born in 64, my dad was a WWII navy man (FC) Fire Controlman, (we used to watch the news footage from Vietnam together in the evenings). I joined up in 82, sort of followed in my dads footsteps as a Small Arms/Artillery Repairer (45 Bravo) hence my user name , so my time in service was uneventful thank goodness.

My gratitude and respect to each of you who were not so lucky..

I think I was around 17 0r 18 when the war ended. For some reason, I carried my draft status card with me for another 15 years. I have no idea why.

Well, not cold today!! Warmed up to about 4Celcius,(thats about 37-38F for you "metrically challenged) and rained like a cow pi$$ing on a flat rock!! ICY roads in some areas, and always those that pay absolutely NO ATTENTION to road conditions.

I was 11 in '68. Hats off to you, Troll; and to all the other Vietnam Vets; that was quite the "war". My sisters boyfriend was over there too, I think in '68 as well. He doesn't have much good to say about it.

I have the same OEM badges on my ride, kind of like them and I will leave mine in place .........

One of the po's of mine sanitized the bike it has the Vulcan badges, but Kawasaki is only on the white neck label. No where else.
I kinda like it.

You know, I never got to see the badges on my ride. The first owner stripped them off and the second owner mostly just let the bike sit for 2 years until I got it.

I enjoy winter; even enjoy plowing once a week or so; kind of a bummer right now, I have to sit and watch the wife plow with the 4-wheeler; she doesn't want to try the plow truck.

When we (my family) moved to Canada in 1968 (I was a kid then) we were homesteading in Northern B.C., near the Halfway River country, we were literally 'snowed in' from "too deep to drive" until after things dried up after spring break-up. We had to build 8 miles of road from the last oil-patch lease road to our homestead; literally a trail dozed through the bush and trees, build a bridge to cross one river (the Cameron) and ford a creek (Blair Creek) about 150 feet from the house. (That was our running water,btw) So, all in all, being "snowed in" for a couple of days is kind of a lark now, in comparison. It was a great way to live while young, but wouldn't be so much "fun" now.

Sorry to kidnap a thread; (gotta keep the rabble-rousers mollified, don't we, Ratman?)

that last sentence is so true, I lived in CO, in Colorado Springs for 5 years and I really misse dthe snow the first 3 years then the last 2 years we actually got snow in the city to a decent amount and one that knocked the city off its socks....lol....but I like the winter but do wish it was not so long for the most part, the cold is not so bad I can deal with it. I used to work the local ski hill and at -20C on a wind swept nite it was a long shift outside....but we learn to dress for it.

I lived in Waukegan, IL... 12 FEET of snow on the ground... built an IGLOO to store my HD for the season. I had it parked outside my bedroom window... which was half below grade. Wind chill of -65F a couple of winters.

So, I truly understand how long winters impact your life. While we joke about it... its not always funny.
I refused a big time promotion that would have moved me back to Chicago about 15 years ago - a big part of that decision was the weather. Tennessee... paradise in comparison. We get a nice snow about once per year and its gone within a few days. We've been snowed in... and enjoyed it because we knew it wouldn't last weeks or months - its a nice change.. I'd hate to live someplace where it never snowed.

reminds me supper tonight will be moose lasagna, abuddies wife made for me....so no cooking tonite...

and I mis spoke when I went out side there was actually some snow on the ground, and south bound traffic on the highway had snow on the cars......so it is here too...
