I found it. THe song is called Small motors. He writes lots about cars, trains animals, shooting the neighbors dog.. thought it was a coyote. That sort of thing.
Enjoy.

He comes around touring now and then. Fred Eaglesmith and the Flathead noodlers, Fred and the Flying squirrels.. it changes. But always a pretty good show.

Well that was pretty darned interesting, ChilliDrift. If you ever find the one about the engines, put that up too. Never heard of Fred Eaglesmith; alot like Ray Wylie Hubbard.

Could be worse; and has been some years. Incidentally, that is not a diesel; it is a 1 1/2 hp Stover gasoline engine; one of my parts engines. I have been collecting and restoring these old flywheelers for longer than I care to think about. I have 2 engines that are over 100 years old; one, a 3 hp Gray Marine inboard, 2-stroke runs on straight gasoline, NOT mixed gas,(lets see if some of you mechs can figure that one out!)built in 1902, and a 1910 Fairbanks Morse type N; HUGE! Shipping weight from factory, not including fuel tank, cooling tank, or skids, was 2200 lbs. Plus a multitude of others up to 1948 (my newest) including a 1926 Briggs and Stratton.

Anyway, got off topic off topic here; there have been years where biking is over by 3rd week of September, and not back until mid-May. So all in all no complaints (well, not too many, anyway) about the weather. Just means time to cover them and move on to other projects/hobbies like old engines, tractors, guns, yada-yada. :)

Guy named Fred Eaglesmith wrote a song about a guy who collected old cast single piston engines. Can't remember the name. He's a musician from up north there.  I found this one looking for the other. Seemed appropriate.

Sorry Troll but the winter does have some good things about it,
1. ice fishing
2. curling
3. skiing
4. riding your snow machine
5. reason to stay in and lay about watching TV

and park your ride in the living room and work on it ove rthe winter while watching TV....

Well, it got down to 28 here over night....probably 99% of the leaves have fallen off my huge ash tree in the back yard. The gas company FINALLY came and installed the gas line to the house and the meter, and actually put it where I wanted it...A week from Tuesday, the HVAC people are going to install my new 95% efficient gas furnace. All this just in time for the onset of winter. What's this got to do with motorcycles? Nothing,  but since were on a thread about cold weather...damn, I hate winter...I can't stand being stuck inside...I do have one consolation, though. Wednesday, I was out running errands for the wife, and turned over 10,000 miles on the Drifter for this year.. ;D

soooo sad  :'( that winter is coming. This has been a great summer and fall being first time riding. It is close to pack her in but I kind of like the rush from the cold weather. I was riding tonight, around 32F  ( I think thats around 1C ??, my canadian brothers weather  temps sounds soooo cold ) but I feel so alert and when I am home feel energized. Weird.

From what I have learned about the Ural and it's fraternal twin, the Dnepr is that they are 1936 BMWs without either the sophistication or the craftsmanship....I know someone who owns one, and has been kind enough to pass this information along.

I was actually looking at a Ural before I decided on the drifter, and I learned or was told, Urals are easy to work on and do your own maint. if you have some skill, prone to tire issues for some reason, not fast and slow if the bike is loaded and sidecar has a load on, think some one told me it was like a 300 lbs payload on them....they are cool but the drifter is nicer.

Oh and yes it has been snowing here on and off all day not staying but trying really hard to stick......

When I rode up to Whitehorse in '08, I met a Ural, with a hack, Blaze Orange, knobby tires like a dirtbike, sounded like an old John Deere tractor when it went by me. They are a tough bike; google them and see some of the 'torture tests' the military puts them through; it is amazing. Wouldn't like to be the poor slob in the side car though!  ;D

When i lived in Colorado, I used to see a guy with a ural riding in the snow, it was the model with the sidecar wheel driven off of the bikes rear wheel..

They are only a 750, and come in 2 gearings (high altitude, and low altitude)

Really a neat bike.
but not unique like our Drifters.

Sorry to get sidetracked.

>:(   49'r pity for you, I had to scrap the windshield this morning before heading off to work. But I am hoping to get a ride in before it snows ........

No pity-party out here, pal, we takes it like it comes!! ;D  Bigger problem than -3 to -5 is all the MUD from all the sideroads and truck traffic; mud on the pavement in places makes it look like a dirt road, plus .6 mile of dirt side road that is VERY slick when wet, from my driveway to the pavement.

I like snow, (when not on 2wheels)
I also like your antique diesel plant holder.
(My brother restores old engines & bikes)

Sorry to hear the season is cut short up there this early..
