Squeaky Brakes

There are several potential causes and cures. The above will help. Solid rotors contribute, as does glazing on the pads and rotor.

You might  want to use a scrubbing pad or really fine sand paper on the rotor just to "unpolish" it... break up the glazing ... that sometimes help.

There is a paste that brake guys call the 'blue goo' that they put on the back sides (towards the cylinder) that lessens squeal.  You can get it at any parts store or have your repair person disassemble them and try that.
Never had the problem on my 1500 but new pads may have different resonating characteristics than the aged ones on my 1999,

Anyone else have an issue with a squeaky front brake?  Have 2000 800 and the front brake squeaks except under heavy braking.  At first I thought it was my pads because they were almost due for a change but even after installing new pads the squeak is still there (it did stop squeaking for about 100 miles when I installed new pads).  Is this normal?  Would installing a drilled rotor help?  Is it my riding style?
