Believe it or not, companies look for little things like shortening wires in harnesses that offer 'cost reductions' once a product is mature.

My bike is an '01, 1500. I don't know why but the wiring "wasn't" long enough to reach the front under the rad, hence the splice job. Since the original posting I've had the rectifier rewired and it now work fine. This time I had someone more SKILLED than I to do the deed, sigh! Thanks for your reply and your helpful input. I'm back on the road and a happy camper again!

A lot of folks have rerouted the box without having to do anything with the wiring... including me. What year is yours?

You are going to need to make sure you haven't popped various fuses. I'd replace the rectifier now... believe me its not worth being stuck in the middle of no place with a dead battery.

There are several discount oem parts places online. Go over to the accessories area of the website. click on vendors and dealers, then OEM parts suppliers...

About a year ago I relocated my electrical regulator up to the front of my bike under the rad. Well to make a long story short. The wires weren't long enough to do the job so I spliced in a few extra inches to do the job. This weekend coming home from a trip the bike broke down and the culprit was my spliced job had shorted out and fried up where I had added the extra wire. My question is can I rewire the dare thing again "this time doing it right" (apparently I used the wrong type o'wire). Or do I get a new one? Where do I get a new one that won't cost an arm and a leg?
Looking for some advise.
