Which Windshield?

My shield is a F&S/Cobra with the big chrome bands... made for the drifter... bought in 2002 - not a nomad shield. The nomad hardware is different from the drifter as well.

Yup!  Masking tape is good.  A sharp (like new) drill bit is good too.

Oh, and measure twice & cut once.

Masking tape works ok. Any bit will work... slow speeds is better... don't want to melt the "plastic".

I might suggest Cee Baileys ( http://www.ceebaileys.com/kawasaki/drifterws.html ).  They make custome sized and colored (if you want that) shields, and the beauty of it is, since they come undrilled they'll mount to any frame you have.  You measure the holes you need to drill, tape it off so it doesn't crack, then drillaway.

Just ordered my replacement windshield from ceebaileys. Any tricks or advice I should know when drilling my holes. I still have my old windshield so lining up the holes will be easy. What type of tape should I use? How much I use? Will I need special drill bits?

I don't know what shield we have here, but I know that the F&S Nomad style shield is 21" tall, and the OP states he has a 19" shield.  I've seen 2 different styles of F&S shields, and the frames are different as well as the lexan being a slightly different shape.  The Nomad shield has a larger chrome horazontal crossbar on it that could be had with or without the Kawi Vulcan logo on it.  This is the type I have.  The other shield and frame has very thin bars, so theres no room for any adornments.  This style is the one pictured in the Cee Bailey's link I gave earlier.

I get it; thanks Chief.  When I first saw mine out in front of the now gone bike shop, it had woven leather lever fringes, a light bar and crash bar.  The dealer told me that the Kawasaki lawyers hadn't come to an agreement on the saddle bag design.  I shrugged and figured I'd figure out how to carry my clean underweat and said, "how much?"  I was gone at the woven fringe!

You are rignt ... you are just defining terms more exactly than I am... There were Fire and Steel windshields available from Kaw... but they were not part of the base bike - which is usually what folks are saying when the say "oem". In this case we don't know if they bought the F&S/Cobra shield, Rifle or whatever which was my point.

I'm not certain but I think that Drifters do have the windshield option.  My dealer sold me mine in 1999 and installed it.  It came with a Vulcan V on it's chrome.

Drifters didn't come with windshields - so they all are aftermarket. Post a picture - that might help identify the shield. F&S made some which a lot of us have - I think National makes the replacement plastic.

When I bought my 99 Drifter it came with a 19in windshield. I don't know if its OEM or after market nor are there any markings to determine the maker.

I need to replace the plastic but dont know which to order (Memphis Shades, National....).

Any thoughts?
