Yeah that 800 03 on Ebay is a sweet lookin bike.

annieoakley

13 listed on ebay as I write this. One of them is a no reserve 2003 800. Man If I had the extra cash I would be bidding on that one. Dallas isnt that far away! I think a road trip could be in order. Heck, Boop you buy it and I'll go get it for you!!!!!!!!  ;DHope you find one you like real soon!

BOOP

Chief,
I really do like the one with the lion & the lamb on the tank but, I think it has sold. I tried calling over the weekend but didn't get a return call. So, I just now emailed them... maybe they will respond. The others are just not 'me' or are too far away.

I've decided to let the insurance company have my old bike. I hate too because I just put new conti tires on it and a new lifetime battery plus the vance & hines are still in good shape. So is the back fender. Plus, I like the seat. But, I want it out of my garage. I cry when I see her!

So, I'm just not gonna be in a hurry so I can find THE one for me. I sooooo appreciate yall!

Look in the classifieds... there are a few in there for sale now...

tmassey

i found a drifter 1500...with extras for $ 3600.00 here in lodi , ohio

Don't want to get into a health care debate on the forum, but nothing is free. HC in Canada costs every individual about $5000 per year. Total tax burden for Canadians is, on average,  about 42%... 42% of your earnings go for taxes in one form or other.  Greece needs to be a warning to us all about the government providing "free" stuff... etc.

Glad to hear he is at home. You cannot sell the bike until the claim has been adjusted at which point the insurance company owns salvage rights.

Well, he's home & in pain but will survive. Yes he has medical insurance but it only pays 80% of his bills. My bike is back in my garage but she sure does look sad. Had someone offer me $1000 for her @ the convenience station before we even got home with her.

1999 Drifter

I don't think anything, if your a Canadian citizen all medical bills except presciptions are covered, doesn't matter if your a hobo on the street or a millionare
of course there are taxes on the regular stuff we puchase, however I don't follow the Provinical or Federal finance stuff too much so there might be hidden cost like you say
full coverage on my 99 Drifter for 12 months, though I can only drive 7 months because of winter $640/yr
3 kids medical bill $0.00
gas $1.04 cents per litre
I'd love to ride through some of the states as they are just beautiful, ya got good country there!

About that socialized medicine in CA; how much taxes do you pay for it, over a lifetime?

1999 Drifter

Sorry to hear about your ride and rider
21,000 dollars for the air lift , does he have to pay medical bills as well?
here in Canada eh it's all free
A bill like that would ruin me, does he get any money back or assistance

Varooom

Sounds like your love of cruising is healthy and this hopefully short spell without another (water cooled, shaft drive, balanced engine) drifter will be a short one.  Take heart; there are plenty out there and all they take is patience, a list of appropriate questions, a bus or plane ticket and a GREAT RIDE HOME!
Try to look at this as a fun scavenger hunt; get your list ready and go!

He is still doing good. But I'm not. It has finally hit me that my bike is history. I'm starting the grieving process. I'm just heart sick! I've been looking online. Just can't find HER replacement.  :'( :'( :'( :'(  My hubby is wanting me to get a Heritage, but..... where'd they put the rest of the fender??? I love the looks of Drifters. To me they're the prettiest bikes on the road. Heritage would be my 2nd choice. My heart just aint into shopping right now. But, if any of yall see a good deal on a nice one let me know. Chief you dont live to far from me so if you see any your way give me a hollar please. I'm gonna go pout :'( myself to sleep. I feel as if my dog died or my spouse left me.... just devastated! Are ya suppose to like your ride that much? Or am I just spazzing out?

Glad I got yall to vent too. Don't want my family seeing me so freaked out. Thanks for listening and for all your help.

chief

Yeah, if you didn't have a specific value policy you are going to get "blue-book" value on the plain vanilla bike. If you had accessories you will get very little back on those unless you had them listed and specific value. I have $5000 on accessories and customization.

I have only allowed one person to ride any of my bikes in 30 years... and he dropped it in the yard! I always have some good excuse... usually something mechanical!! <LOL>...

I would make the claim immediately were it me.

Glad he is ok. Its hard enough knowing someone was injured on YOUR bike.

He's out of surgery, all went well. Thanks everyone. That was the only time I've let anyone ride my bike other than my hubby. And I will Never let anyone ride my bike (when I get one) again! Its not that I'm worried about a wrecked bike.... its that who ever is on it can be killed & that would be on my shoulders the rest of my life. So, nope, no more 'spins' for anyone!

Yeah, He had DM license. I have full coverage. I haven't had them to process the claim yet because my cousin says he will buy me another one. But, I don't know what to do because he is going to have a bunch of medical bills. The helicopter ride itself will be about $21,000. I'm just sooo confused on what to do. But, I don't want my premium being outrageous either because of a wreck that I wasn't the rider in.

Do insurance companys go by blue book value or what?

(My bike was an 01 with 9436 miles. Yall see the paint job and any extra's in my profile pic.)

tmassey

there are some drifters in ohio on craig's list.....sorry about your bike...buy him a bus pass ...the next time he wants to ride.

chief

My prayers with your cousin.

Its done several ways. They may make you an offer with salvage rights or without. Sometimes they will give you the option of purchasing the salvage after the deal is done. Sometimes they will do a deal with your payment.  Sometimes they auction the salvage. Insurance companies basically buy the bike from you when they pay your claim. They then sell the bike to salvage /junk yards etc.

When you deal with the claims folks ask how they deal with salvage.

Dear BOOP,
That picture is the saddest thing I have seen :( , I'm glad the rider will be okay, but really he owes you a new ride. I have had other motorcyclists ask me if they can sit on my bike to see how well balanced it is, but that is as far as it goes. They know I would never let "Lonesome" out of my sight. I hope everything works out between you and your insurance company and you will be back in the saddle soon :)

TC

This is a little late but in the future if someone else wants to ride your bike do what I do. I tell them nobody else rides my bikes. If you want to ride,  the place I got mine has a lot more for sale.  I know, sounds selfish but all my bikes are in my garage now.

Varooom

Many states will hold you responsible if your friend didn't have a motorcycle specific license.  Too bad but good that he's going to live to take a few motorcycle driving lessons.  Did you have collision insurance?  Spoken to your agent yet?

Thanks Chief. I went to Erlanger today to see him. They had to put another rod in his right leg, only the femur this time. His arm is worse than the leg and they're doing surgery on it in the morning. He is so lucky to be alive. But, he's gonna be ok.
I wish I could figure out how to put a pic of my bike on here. She looks so sad!  :(  Always garage kept, so .... its storming out there....she's laying on her side in gravels in the boondocks bleeding profusely on the ground ;).....and Momma's sitting here, can't sleep, worrying.
Will I get the bike after the insurance deal is taken care of? Have never had an accident, thank God!
Will my premium go up since I wasn't the one riding it?

chief

I'm sorry to hear this from two perspectives. Glad he is ok, but sorry about your bike.

TN has a lot of twisties. With Nissan HQ moving into the Franklin area we have a lot of CA transplants. Some haven't gotten the hang of our driving in TN, yet. Unfortunately, folks sometimes don't realize that every bike is different and it takes a while to get the handling down. The drifter is set up for individuals and has its own handling characteristics. So it may handle great for one person and not so great for another.

Also sounds like he may be over-aggressive in his riding... ie two crashes same side.

Don't give up. There are more Drifters out there. You can find another. Let us know about salvage.

I let my cousins husband ride it. He moved to Tn. from California. Sold his bike before he moved. I rode to their house to visit and told him to hop on & take it for a spin. 15 mins later we recieved a call, he crashed. He was flown to Erlanger Hosp. His femur is broken completely into in 2 different places and their installing a rod now. His arm is broken. He isn't use to curves I don't guess. He hit one too hard too fast but only about 3 miles from his house. He is going to be ok. Thank God!!! But my little Jewell is scrap. My heart is broken for his bad luck. Before he moved here he wrecked one of his HD's. Has a rod and pins in the same leg he broke today. Please keep him in your prayers (and me when I realize my bike is trash). :'(   I have never been a material girl, family & friends is at the top of my list, but I sure did love my bike. I shopped for months and travelled far to get her when I found her. I feel like I'm dreaming....... :-\
