Depends upon the line, but a lot of ours aren't maintained as well IMHO.

My wife and have ridden trains in Europe and china much smother.  I think the problem is that Csx owns and takes care of the tracks, and they haul freight.

<LOL>... I've been riding trains, mostly in Europe, since I was two... back when trains took you everywhere. Back then, the tracks were segmented... so you got the clicking/thumping. Nowadays they are continuous, but still rock and sway. Being an old sailor, I sorta like it!

We are planning a train trip in the near future.

Took the autotrain as part of are trip to Maine. My wife and I both liked the train and the service, but we could not sleep on the train to much movement. My next door neighbor
loves the rocking and says it the most relaxing way to travel. The cost for two ticket one bike and the roomett ( very small room ) was $535.00 As for now we have no plans to ride the autotrain again.
