Best sprocket combo

I've only put about 100 miles on the 18/38 combo; all of it solo. There is definitely difference when initially starting to move when compared to the stock gearing. The rest of the driving is great. As soon as I get a Mustang seat cover for it I'm going to put my dual seat on it and see how it does 2 up. We are at about 1,000' elevation and pretty flat around here.

I'm not only dull myself; I inspire dullness in others.

I put about 4,000 miles on a 18/38 combo last year.  Loved it, would do it again in a heart beat.

And another thing....   Do you ever ride 2-up, or only solo??   I plan someday to do some amount of 2-up riding, if ever I come across a seat.  Do you think the 18/38 is (or would be) "too high" for another passenger.

I just found another long post on sprockets - sill me I hadn't looked in the performance section...

The thread was about 6 months old, so I guess the question remains - after some riding time, is everybody happy with their sprocket ratio, or if you were to do it over, what sizes would you pick?

For what it's worth, most of my riding right now is shorter trips, relatively flat terrain, not much on the interstate.  I just think it seems geared too low.

I've read several posts on re-gearing with different sprocket combos.  So far I've seen 18 front/stock rear, 18/38 and 18/39.  I feel like the stock gearing is way too low, it needs another gear.  But I don't want to go too far and have to do it twice.  So which ratio is working the best?   For those that have re-geared, what setup are you using, and how's it working?  If you could pick a "perfect" combo, did you hit it the first time, or would you recommend one tooth higher or lower???

Second question, as a newbie sprocket buyer, should I look for a certain brand?  Ebay ok?  Is there a certain dealer or supplier that just has everything at good prices someone can recommend without me shopping all over the WWW?  Also, at 16,000 miles, should I just get a new chain as well, or try to keep this one??
