I had a 76 sportster, tinkered with it all week, just so i could ride it on the weekend.

it would get you there, but don't count on it getting you back from where ever you went.

Either it would not start (until after your "friends" left to go back home)
And with no kick starter it was a push start deal and the engine had great compression so it was difficult to do that.

or it would just suddenly decide to leak the contents of the oil tank spontaneously while parked (and onetime while riding it)

When i got it the previous owner (my brother) neglected to inform me he had stripped out the oil drain plug on the last oil change.
So while going down the interstate it came out.

You know harley sells an "Oversized" drain plug?
Apparently it happens on a regular basis.

I enjoyed it, but i was glad to sell it (back to my brother) who was thrilled that i had fixed it up.

I'm not surprised to see how many 'ex' Harley riders there are...I just sold a 78 sportster and it was the first and the last HD I will ever own.
My first bike was a 450 Honda Nighthawk. Went bikeless for many years until I saw a Drifter....love at first sight. Got a new leftover '01 1500 in 2003...had to sell 2 years later, then when I could get another it was another Drifter. Again had to sell it back in the early spring. Had enough cash to pick up a 78 Harley Sportster in May.

Guy just picked up the sportster today- I sold it. Biggest piece of crap ever.
I'm saving up to get another Drifter that I will sell a kidney before I sell it.

I'm new around here.  Been riding my 1999 Drifter for a little over a year now.  I'm sort of surprised there don't seem to be many Indian Riders in the bunch.  (unless I missed something.)  I've got a 1946 Chief.  Current project is a Honda CB750 Bobber, Hardtail, Fatbob tanks, Solo seat with springs.  Trying for a 1945 to 1955 (real) bobber look.

My first was a 1972 honda z50 mini trail when i was 8, then a 1976 harley 125cc 2 stroke.
then a few Yamaha's, other honda's, a BSA, a Ossa, a Hodaka wombat, then I got a 1984 Kawasaki GPz550 ZX550A1, my first Kawasaki, Since then i have owned an goldwing, a voyager, a harley, a yamaha xs1100, a 1976 honda cb750 super sport, and just this week a 1500 drifter.

The best of them all has to be the Gpz550.
i had the most fun, and the best memories of that bike.

I enjoy finding a bike that has been neglected and resurrecting them.

And would buy 1 again if i ran across a good deal.

Yes, I have seen a couple (pics only). I recall seeing the Drifter listed on a trike conversion site - though not recently.

Actually yes I have... I'll try to find it.. They had the traditional Trike set up as well as the Can-Am spyder trike option... Where did I save that at??

My '02 Drifter was the 3rd one I attempted to get... the first 2 sold out under me fast!!!  Glad I got ahold of this one...

My other bike, is a Vulcan Custom - Candy Lime Green.  After I got the drifter I started chopping the custom... now the bike looks pretty mean with a solo springer seat and new Bub Jug Huggers!!  The bike has been a work in progress with alot of mods I already completed... but the chopping was only doable when I had the second bike... i love the La Rosa set I got for the seat, chopper bag & form roll!

i bought a 2003 1500 drifter a little over a week ago traded in my 1996 honda magna 750 for it and lets just say that i made a good decision i liked my magna but it was just to small and i love my drifter all though the wife is not real happy yet cause we have not got a rear seat but it will come in due time

Recent new owner of a 99' Drifter 1500 and my last bike was a 2007 Suzuki GS500F. I have admired the Drifter ever since it came into being. Beautiful bike and have checked this site out for many years and now on here as a proud owner!

I just can't get rid of bikes anymore, they all have thier place My Drifter handles all our 2-up needs, my '06 Sporty is basically a bobber and just a blast to ride, my '07 Vulcan 900 Classic is also going the way of the bobber and is also a lot of fun. My '76 Ironhead Sporty has found it's way to my oldest son's garage and he's riding the crap out of it. We also have an '80 Yamaha XS400 sitting in the garage in pieces, that'll either be a cafe style or we'll chop it.

My Drifter 1500 is great on long runs. I also have a Sportster 883r I love it for zipping around town. My last bike was a Kawasaki EX 500.

My first motorcycle was a Sportster,1959  [had it in 65-66] {wish I had it now} then BMW r/60, Norton,..and others since.
Oddly enough,never a Honda?,or a Bonnie?..[rode a friends Bonnie quite a bit] very nice in it's time.

Currently own a 99 Drifter 1500, 00 Nomad, & a BMW R1150R ........I luv'em all.

Currently own an '02 1500 Drifter and an '05 Hd Ultra; LOVE that Drifter; hardly ride the Harley anymore, likely going to sell it this year; it is my 3rd Harley, started with a 1976 FLH,  an '88 Heritage Softail, then the '05. Had to overhaul the '76 Shovel 2x, no issues with the others; if I sell the Harley I might consider a Nomad, '06-'08 for 2-up riding with the wife as I will not put a 2-up seat on my Drifter.

My last bike before I got my 1550 Drifter was a GS850G Suzuki full dresser. it was the first one I ever owned with shaft drive. Sure was smoother than the KZ750 I had before. When I got my drivers license back in 74, my first vehicle was a CB125 honda. none of them compare to my drifter, Man what a ride.

I currently have a 1978 Honda GoldWing with 46,000 original miles and is in mint condition, ride it occasionally. I also have a 2003 Kawasaki Nomad 1500 that I purchased 2 years ago with 9445 miles on her, now she is a few hundred short of 50,000 miles. Anyone looking for a touring bike I would highly recommend the Nomad. I recently purchased a 2003 Drifter 1500 Metallic Ruby Red with 10,000 miles which I haven't put a mile on yet with our extended winter here in MN. I am hoping to get her out this week and give her a good shakedown ride.

I ride the '02 Drifter, and before that I rode an '82 Honda CX500C. One of the fun parts of riding the CX was; practically everywhere I rode people would say: "I rode one of those a long time ago". Apparently, everyone had a CX500 at one point.
