Finally got that USB power adapter installed today.  The hardest part was figuring out where to put it.  I ended up installing it on the side just behind the wind screen.  Initially I was going to install it between the windscreen and the forks but it was about an 1/8 of an inch to thick.  I tried thinning down the corner of the bracket that was hitting the windscreen but I removed just a bit too much...LOL... so it was plan B side of the fork.  I think it should stay out of the weather but I probably won't be using my cell in the rain.  Here are a few photo of the install was done.  Let me know if you need any additional information.

I connect my cell to the adapter with a 18" USB cable but a 12" cable would work fine and either would reach my windscreen bag.

Ordered the USB power socket this morning.  I will let you know how it works once get it installed.

No but it is a great idea... and its becoming more common on vehicles.

If you already have a cigar lighter type socket you can also purchase a rocketfish usb plug that you insert... that way you have both the cigar lighter socket and the usb.

Is anyone using a USB type system for accessories? http://www.burnsmoto.com/usb-power-socket-weatherproof.php  Everything I have that I would want to connect is USB so it seems skipping the 12v adapter and going straight to USB it would save space and the USB port(s) would probably be easier to place on the bike too.

The 1500 I just picked up didn't have the pig tail I was asking about but my brother had a trickle charger that had tie pig tail so when I changed the battery I installed it.  Hooks direct to the battery and will work to charge my cell phone.

My 2001 1500 has the bullet connectors, 1st set located under seat, I use the constant power side of that set for my "Formation Power Pod "( cigarette lighter and charger for gadgets, ). My other set is under gas tank (not used currently). Both sets are OEM.

Eklipes makes a 12 volt adapter for bikes. Has two ways to hook it up. straight to the battery or through the electrical hook-up. I just bought it. This will make two outlets on my bike. I hope the alternator and battery can hold up to the draw of voltage. Oh yeah it cost me $12.00 here in Oregon, only because we have NO sales tax here.

Is the plug in the bottom photo OEM or aftermarket?  That's the type plug I need to charge my cell.  The 05' Classic has one of those that comes off the left hand side of the bike just by the top of the shock.  Works great to plug the phone into and throw the phone in the left saddlebag.

I'm picking my bike up on Monday. For all those inquiring minds..... NO My mechanic did not get it fixed. I'm bringing it home and with everyones help here. I hope to get it running. I will take a picture of my accessory plug and post it.

I feel with all experience we should do better than the shop did.

mine has a DC power outlet under the left side cover. It looks like it;ll work with a cig. lighter also. i plug my cell phone car charger in it.

My 99 1500 has two Connectors under the seat (1 always hot, 1 ground) but they are for the standard bullet terminal ends; fused at 10 Amps. Using them you can wire any type of connectors on that you wish. I have my wired to my LED's.

If they are standard bullet connectors then they should work for hooking up my cell charger................one is open (ground) and the other is covered (power).

My front connector is under the speedo. The 99 & 00 have a differant speedo & tank from the later years; so possibly that front connector was moved. Of course mine might just be in the wrong place.

I have a question for someone who actually has a 99' 1500 Drifter to look at.  My 05' Classic has a two prong accessory plug that comes out from under the seat (hooked up through a fuse to the battery) by the left hand shock. I use it to charge my cell phone when on road trips.  My question is: does a 99' 1500 Drifter have that plug also?
