Vulcan Oil filter Recall for 2003 Drifter

JANUARY 23, 2004 RECALL-

THIS BULLETIN IS OF THE HIGHEST PRIORITY AND MUST BE ACTED UPON IMMEDIATELY TO INSURE CUSTOMER SAFETY. PROBLEM-OIL FILTER LEAKAGE.

ELIGIBLE UNITS:

03-1500 CLASSIC,1500 DRIFTER, 03/04-NOMAD FI, 1500 MEAN STREAK-----ENGINE NUMBER RANGE 121281 THRU 128445.
1600 CLASSIC-----ENGINE NUMBER RANGE 000058 THRU 003459.

SUBJECT-

ON SOME ELIGIBLE UNITS DURING COLD STARTS, A DELAY IN THE RESPONSE OF THE OIL PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE CAN OCCUR ALLOWING THE OIL PRESSURE TO MOMENTARILY RISE HIGH ENOUGH TO DEFORM THE BOTTOM PLATE OF THE OIL FILTER. THIS COULD CAUSE OIL TO LEAK FROM THE OIL FILTER AND CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR A CRASH. KAWASAKI

ACTION-

REPLACING THE OIL FILTER WITH A COUNTERMEASURE OIL FILTER,NOTIFYING ALL REGISTERED OWNERS OF ELIGIBLE UNITS. DEALER ACTION-REPAIR ALL ELIGIBLE UNITS.

If you own a 2003 1500 Drifter, you should have this recall completed.
