General Discussion / Is it an Indian?
May 14, 2017, 21:38:38 PM

With nice weather, I'm getting out on my Drifter 800 much more often. At many gas stations, rest stops, lunch breaks, etc. I get non-riders asking "is that an Indian?" or the comment " nice Indian. " ( I have the after-market Indian features, including the Indian head tank decals and Indian head fender ornament.) What do you say?  I've tried "it's a Drifter," but they glaze over and wander off. I'm thinking of just saying "Isn't it great?"

Drifter 800 Only / Factory solo seat

Will the OEM solo seat for the 2001-2006 model 800 fit on a 1999-2000 model 800? The part numbers are different, though the design looks similar.

Drifter 800 Only / Motorcycles solo seat conversion
April 08, 2017, 20:25:49 PM

Has anyone tried the Bobbercycles solo seat conversion on their Drifter 800? Their ebay listing says it will fit a Drifter without modification, but their webpage only listed the Vulcan and Vulcan classic and says that it "may" fit other models. Looks like a cool Springer seat, if it really fits.

A long way from Bristol.  I'm off US 81 at Exit 296.

Drifter 800 Only / Issue with Guido's engine guard
January 22, 2017, 18:26:00 PM

I bought Guido's engine guard and it neatly bolted in place. Even neatly moved the horn. But the thickness of the left lower bracket moved the bolt head out just enough to brush the front shifter. Did I do something wrong?  How do I fix it? Can I slightly grind down the bolt head or move the shifter out a bit on its pivot? I like the bars but can't accept any interference with the shifter.   :(

Introductions / New guy in Shenandoah Valley

Hi! I just purchased a 2000 Drifter 800 at the end of December and am very excited to be a returning rider with a "new to me" Drifter. The PO added Indian markings and the indianhead light on the front fender. Now I'm working on making it my own. I'm going to have a bunch of questions and look forward to the expert advice of this group.

BTW, I write for the US Cavalry Journal, so my friends call me "Trooper." And now I have an iron horse too.
