Drifter 1500 only / Re: turn signal rubber
August 27, 2017, 17:37:56 PM

update:  so there was no saving the broken turn signal but the "plasti dip" is a good fix for all the rest.  it fills all the cracks and gaps well if applied with a foam paint brush.  while i wait for the new turn signal from partzilla i have it held together with a large amount of electrical tape and some bits of clothes pin for support.

Drifter 1500 only / turn signal rubber
August 26, 2017, 20:24:39 PM

walked out to the bike yesterday to find that the rubber on the rear turn signal finally gave out.  curious to see what others have done about this.  i think i might be able to fix it up with some super glue and tool dip.  any recommendations would be welcome.

ok so I figured out where they go.  the were the ones that belong on the post holes for tool storage cover.  there is no way they would have ever fit on the brake cover lol

Drifter 1500 only / Mystery grommets
December 20, 2015, 12:38:30 PM

Just got the bike painted trying to put her back together and I have two leftover grommets my best guess is they go on the front brake cover but I don't wanna force them on if I'm wrong.  Does the front brake cover have rubber grommets?

well the guy was supossed to deliver the bike on saturday.  he never showed up and never called.  i left this morning to continue on to eastern georgia.  just talked to my father inlaw and he is supposed to deliver it tomorrow at 5 so we will see.  but while i was there i finished fabricating myself a backrest and in stalled my new breather covers.  they were the only thing salvaged from my father inlaws last drifter.  and re adjusted the throttle grips

Made the trip from ks  to all in just over 24hours starting on Thurs. Back and but are sore but made it alright even with 100 miles of rain and st Louis rush hour.  Once I got to the Inlaws we hopped into the truck to go by a new drifter for my father in law.  This is his second drifter, the first got squished by an idiot texting

so this thread got me thinking the other day and while i was riding on a less populated stretch i stuck my face down near the gap between my ws and the headlight.  even at 40mph i felt little to no wind getting through.  so unless you just dont like the look inho dont "mind the gap"  sorry for that pun.

like i said that is the cheapest.  now keep in mind im in an area where prices are inflated due to the millitary base.  these places know just how much "disposable" income we have and they will milk us for it.  i could get cheaper but im not sure i trust ridding that far the way that front tire looks

So my new tires came in today.  now just to get into the shop to have them put on.  Also should they look narrow compared to the one currently on the bike?  I am assuming its due to the lack of air and weight.  and yes I Know i waited just a bit to long to get tires.

the reason that you cannot use a ws from a classic is a very slight difrence in the top tripple tree.  this is for us the lack of threaded holes that the classic has.  i ran into this issue my self when i purchased the memphis slim.  now what you can do if you are brave enough is drill and tapp these holes into the tripple tree.  it is a little hair raising due to the alluminum construction and the close proximity to the forks but it will work.   on a side note i did ride around with that memphis just held in place by the lower bolts of the mount and other than a slight vib/ hum had no issues, but that was only temporary not sure how much stress that would put on the mount itself

correct me if im wrong but part of your problem might be in your speed versus gear.  Your saying that at 45-55 your only in 3rd/4th gear.  by 40 mph you should be in fifth, both by personal experience and by the owners manual.

General Discussion / Re: Why the Drifter?
March 17, 2014, 07:19:17 AM

The Drifter is my first bike.  Growing up my grandfather had Harleys and so did my stepdad, but i learned early on that more expensive is not always better.  I knew for years i wanted to ride but it was so difficult to travel back to MI, from where ever i was stationed at the time to take the motorcycle test.  when it came time that i had to renew my licence in person, i was in Alabama with my wife (she is from Alabama by the way)  so it made sense to just change to an Alabama licence and do the bike stuff then.  My father in law has had many bikes in the time that i have known him, but his Indian is by far the most memorable of them and he knew i loved it.  So when i told him i was going to start looking for a bike so did he.  Right around April rolling into June of last year he calls me and tells me he found me the perfect bike.  just so happens his buddy that was doing his septic line had one collecting dust in the garage.  i immediately got on the phone with the bank and had them cut me a check and send it to the FIL.  Took my military mandated MSF and waited for it to show up in KS from Alabama.  A week after it arrived and i got to get a little used to it we packed it and the FIL's back on the trailer and scooted up to stogies.

I currently wear the Fulmer Drift,  a modular full face helmet with flipdown sun shade.  though I am trying to convince the wifey to let me go half helm

I only have one real ride planned so far. I'll be riding to Kansas City with my brother. Originally it was going to just be a ride up there for a meal at a BBQ place he likes (I can't remember the name), but I think we'll be touring the HD plant they have up there. Regardless of the brand, it should still be cool to see it. It isn't too far of a ride, about 3 hours each way cruising comfortably on the highway. Should be pretty fun even if it isn't super long.

great tour there.... its mostly vrod stuff but definatly worth the trip.  make sure you get good directions the place is kinda hard to find.

The windshield arrived today... Now I am seeing an issue.  the bracket (for the classic 1500 FI) is built for models with the headlight attached to the top trippletree.  the lower bolt holes line up corectly, but there are no holes at the top.  is there any way to maybe clamp them in place???  it is in fact the memphis slim  if anyone knows a way to SAFELY moddify them so that i can mount would be greatly appreciated

well the ebay auction is over i ended up getting it for $49 plus shipping so even if the brackets are wrong its one hell of a deal.
