This has been a long time.... but I think they are all powder coated
Great looking Drifter. Keep us posted on the progress.
That's a bummer - I saw your other post as well on gas tanks. Better check for used tanks from another Drifter or classic.. Got pics of it after it's painted???
That looks real good. Do you have any close up pics??
I have Phat risers on mine - I think they're 4" They put the handlebars where they are comfortable for me. The cables all reached fine, but I think they're at about the limit.
Quote from: Ernest on April 05, 2021, 16:07:22 PMI understand this is an older topic. I was doing research on here, as I was getting a clicking sound at slow speed during cornering. After reading this topic, yes my steering stem bolt was totally loose. Hopefully tightening will correct the clicking sound.
I also found the pinch bolt on front axel was totally loose, it does not fall out cause gravity keeps it in place.
Earnest, you might want to check the steering stem bearings too-- they are notorious for going out - and could cause your clicking sound.
Hope you've gotten this one figured out by now, Bigfoot. I don't have a wiring diagram handy, but I've heard a lot of issues over the years from the kickstand switch, and the clutch switch.
Quite a project, Seedman. Looking really good. I'm anxious to see how it all goes in the end. Sorry about your ice storm--- we had a bad one here about 10 years ago and it took a month to clean up the mess.
I'd love to see those pics. I think (if I remember) I also have a set of Nomad duals in the shed....
Be careful, LOL... When I tore down the 800, it took me about 2 years to get it finished.
Glad you're keeping her, too. I took off the windshield from the 800 when I re-did her a couple years ago. I love the look, but hate the bugs and stones and wind and rain and stuff. I use the 1500 for longer rides, though, with the original retro-style F&S (same as on the 800).
SO I enjoy the looks of the no-windscreen look on the 800, but I'm thinking of putting the screen back on it. I guess I'll probably wait until I plan to ride it for a longer ride again, instead of the 1500, or until I get hit in the face with the next big beetle.
Those look great. Glad it turned out for you.
I've had no experience with the steering stabilizers on a 2-wheeler, so can't comment on that.
But the rider's safety course is a good idea. Gets you some ride time on (typically) a smaller, lighter bike before going out on the cruiser.
Did you figure out a way to make the aluminum plates the correct diameter, without the lathe? Like we talked, a drill press (or even hand drill in a vice) can be made to spin the plates and you can grind them down with a flap wheel on a grinder or something ... lots of ways to skin the cat.
Keep me posted
Welcome to the Forum Tony, and congratulations on buying the new Drifter. You have some beautiful roads down there in WV.
I'd second Chief's recommendation - the Corbin is a great seat option- at least on the Drifters. I have had friends buy them on other bikes, and they were not nearly as good (IMO), so don't judge them by some-one else's bike, if you know of a non-Drifter Corbin.
There's also a couple facebook Drifter pages, you might ask to find either the OEM seat brackets, or a used Corbin.
parts diagrams in general are bad that way.... not necessarily true to life. They (manufacturers) use the same parts illustrations for multiple years/makes/models.
Quote from: Troll on March 03, 2020, 07:41:11 AMWe got some snow last weekend.... not a lot, but probably the biggest drifts we've had all winter (We've had very little snow this year). But like you, we could still get plenty before April. Still brine and salt and lots of gravel on the roads here.... But it rained a lot the last 2 days, so that helps wash it off.So, it snowed here, last night. Supposed to be a "wintery mix" over night, tonight, and a possibility of rain on Monday....
Quote from: Bucko on March 02, 2020, 21:38:31 PMI rolled mine out on Feb 2. It saw it's shadow and scurried back in for another 6 weeks.
LOL
It's starting to get warmer here too - I saw a couple bikes out this weekend. Glad to see you getting out already.
Ron Ottow is heading that up -- I sent him a message on FB to get in touch with you.
Quote from: OR Seedman on February 25, 2020, 19:10:35 PMDo you have the source for where you got them, OR?I spent some time looking for chrome replacements online at various specialty bolt shops.....I wanted some a little longer for when I was using my saddlebag mounts....picked up some chrome button head hex bolts that were 5mm longer (needed the extra length due to the thickness of the saddlebag brackets) They worked really well but were kind of expensive...
I have ordered several replacement bolts - the chromed flange-head type that the seat uses -- I ordered them by part number from a parts catalog, it was more than likely partzilla that I used, or may have been kawasaki parts house, or one of the others. They came correctly and I got what I needed.
Great looking bike. Gotta love a 2-tone Drifter!!!
Do you have any pictures of it?
Quote from: Old Drifter on September 02, 2018, 18:26:49 PMWhat do they call the Polaris Indians?
The Polaris Indians are just Drifter Tribute Bikes...
