I am wanting some chrome bits for my DriftMonster and I am especially having a difficult time finding a chrome piece for the leading edge of the front fender. I have seen it on some of the bikes in the registry and I think it looks tasty. I guess you could call it a beak or lip but I think you all know what I am talking about. I don't know if this is a part offered by aftermarket dealers, or if it is a modified Indian piece... So if you know please tell me! Also some other ideas for dressing my baby up would be appreciated.
You're looking for a "Fender Tip", either front, rear, or both.
The front fender is very similar to '46-'48 Chiefs, but back fender is very different. It's got a lip that the chief's don't have.
An Indian front will fit with some minor grinding, at least if it's the winged art-deco style. I've heard about one from a company called NationBilt, made back in the 1940's that works also.
The flat style may be another story. I'd guess it'd have to be re-shaped by bending it, which might screw up the Chrome?
You might want to call/email Starklite.com for help. They sell repro Indian parts, and say they've helped people "Indianize" their drifters.
Custom Chrome makes a front tip. I found them in Chrome with out the embossing on it. for $9.95 at Jireh cycle (Part number # 89-162) ---->Jireh cycle---> Phone number 877-681-0448. The only thing is the edge of the point has to be shaped or bent to the curve of the fender to get the gap closed. Its only a small gap but as you can see it will work. This part can be made to work on the rear too, though it requires some "massaging".
Also, National Cycle makes some that can work, again, with some work.
I don't know about the Kuryakyn ones, but they make some cool ones.
Lastly, some of these might be made to work: http://www.jpcycles.com/groups.aspx?LID=68E631E6-E477-4504-80DA-60B71E7CEAE8&DID=25b0abeb-2400-4b80-a3af-0a01227b4ee4
Have a look in the accessories area of the VDR site. There are some options listed.
Cheers.
Question: When installing a tank bib on a 02 1500 do you just remove the single allen bolt at the bottom of the dash deal and push the whole thing forward or are there more bolts that I can't see? Help me for I am we taw did....
According to the manual, you remove that bolt, lift the back of the housing, then slide it froward. That removes the housing.
Okay, I got the drool bib on the tank (with some cussing and busted knuckles). Now I want to put some custom grips on the bars. So I have multiple questions. 1. What type of grip do I need? (single or dual cable) 2. Do I need to buy a new throttle sleeve? 3. How the hell do you get the stock grips off the bars, and how do you get the new ones to stay on? 4. Do I need a six pack or a case to do this project? 5. Will my wife continue having sex with me if I keep spending all this money on chrome? I am so inept at all of this dressy stuff it is not even funny... Get me elbow deep in a motor, all is right with the world. Tell me to hang some fringe off of the saddlebags? Umm...do I need my torch and a big hammer? Hahaha ;D

Question 4: I don't recommend any alcohol as the "fine" job you do may not be so fine the next day.
Question 5: Only if you don't spend something on some sparkling stuff for her too.........think diamonds here.
I suggest you buy a new sleeve. That's what I did. I bought several and picked the best. Now I can easily replace grips anytime I want. I have them listed in the vdr accessories area.
