Title: Lowers or Something Else?
Post by: HiPlainsDrifter on June 06, 2011, 08:05:45 AM
O.K. so I put on a cobra engine guard this winter and riding these past few times I have noticed a lot of wind and turbulence coming from below my windscreen up into my face. It wants to blow my glasses and cap off at times and I really need to do something about it or remove crash bar. Do I need a set of lowers on the forks or does anyone have any other ideas on how to correct this?

I bought a set of soft lowers from a guy in Canada for like $50. They made an enormous difference. My problem was more of my inside leg muscles getting really painful after about 300 miles at a stretch, but it cut some of the turbulence around the windshield, too.  I got a set of fork lowers from a nomad, and modded them to fit, too That also helped, but the soft lowers made the biggest difference.

Yep, the seating position of the Drifter makes lowers pretty important. There are several sources and you can make your own... I made a set which worked very nicely. I subsequently gave up some of the effectiveness and adapted a set of harley chrome lowers.

note: we now sell the National Cycle stuff through our store (autoandmotorcycle.com) - we are in the process of listing the stuff right now.

You can get the materials to build your own from any local glass shop and hardware store.
