Title: Road trip!!
Post by: KsDrifter on May 31, 2011, 22:11:37 PM
After 24 years, raising 2 sons that we are very proud of, we're finally taking a vacation! What better way to do it than on our "new to us" Drifter! Tomorrow morning we take off for 20 days, at least 11 states, and over 2500 miles! I can't wait! Since we got the Drifter just over a week ago I haven't had much time so I've only managed about 600 miles and it just begs for more! We roll out tomorrow morning on our adventure! Leaving from Kansas we'll head for Gulfport, Ms, where our youngest son is stationed with the Navy, spend a few days there and head for Carterville, Ga, to visit a friend of my wife, then onto the Cherohala Skyway and the Dragon. From there we'll work our way to Louisville, Ky, to hook up with an old Army buddy and work our way back to Kansas.

Congrats... just got back from the Smokies. I usually avoid 129... dragon's tail during the summer... way too many folks on those curves... especially on weekends. Take pics and let us know how your trip progresses.  Go Navy!

Well,..congrats & enjoy!!......be careful on 129, allot of racer wanna-bees on there (both cars & bikes) & many are just plain dangerous.

Just a quick update. We're currently hanging out with our youngest son and his bride-to-be in Gulfport, Ms. So far the Drifter has performed great, averaging right around 40mpg and just chewing up the miles. I have to say that I'm somewhat dissappointed in the Corbin seat, after about 700 miles I had to stop and pick up a Saddlemen gell pad.  The Corbin was killing my tailbone. I do like the backrest though. Monday morning we head for Georgia!

Glad to hear you are doing well!

The corbin is a firm seat and you really have to get used to it (some folks never do). I've put about a million miles on corbin seats with few problems. We did 5000 miles in 11 days with a Corbin... but we'd been riding on it for a couple of years.  The one on the Drifter is more comfortable than the one on the Goldwing... only because of the foot positioning and seating position variance.

Be careful with that gel pad... they are notorious for causing hot spots and "monkey butt"!  Last week my brother-in-law bought one... rode for about 150 miles and woke up the next morning with MB... bad enough he didn't want to ride the last day we were in the Smokies.

Keep us advised. Cheers!

Time for another update. After making some time on super slab to Georgia, it's been nothing but backroads since. Yesterday we rode the Cherohala Skyway, abolutely amazing, after having spent most of the last several years riding the midwest, this is some of the most beautiful country I've seen. Today we did the Dragon, what a rush! As much as I love my Drifter, I did find myself really missing the handling of the Meanstreak I had. We have taken a bunch of pics but they'll have to wait till we get back as I didn't bring a laptop and my updates are being done via my Droid.

Yeah the drifter requires more attention in setting up the suspension for the rider and loading than some other bikes .
