Title: Oil spraying out inside right bell cover
Post by: Boomer on May 28, 2011, 19:58:12 PM
My 2002 1500 Drifter just started spraying oil out from a single hole at the bottom of the right side bell cover area. With the bell cover off, my hand gets a light spray of oil. Does anybody know what it is and why and how to fix it? Thanks for any help Barry

That sounds like the Crankcase Breather. It is there to prevent the pressurization of the oil in the crankcase from ring blow-by. Problem could be as simple as too much oil in the motor, or as bad as excessive piston ring / cylinder wear. Check oil, of course with bike level; look at hoses, loose or cracked. I am uncertain if there is a valve in this system, someone here will know.  commonly called a PCV; that valve, if there is one, is the most common part in autos to cause this problem.
