See the silver vented box behind the kickstand? I don't see it on most other bikes and it's not in the owner's manual so I assume that it is aftermarket. Anyone know what this is?

That is the Voltage Regulator. It is a strange place but that is where it was mounted on all the 1500 Drifters. It can be relocated to the front like a regular Vulcan with not too much work. I believe instructions can be found on this web site.

What MarshalDoll said... there is a chrome cover over it... oem is black.

After you move it you can put bigger shinner chrome parts there.

  I moved my R/R & was thinking about doing the tool box .... where did you get yours?
