
The Peyote Puffer. The Geico Chief flat-tracker. The Indian Chief roadracer. The King of the Baggers Challenger racebike. If the sheer number of jaw-dropping customs Roland Sands has cranked out over the years is mind-boggling, the amount of designs he's done specifically for Indian Motorcycle is equally legion. Given Sands' professional roadracing roots, the fact that many of his builds tend to be race-focused isn't surprising, so it was something of a head-scratcher that we'd not yet seen a Sands-designed FTR in the portfolio. After all, the guy essentially created the Super Hooligan category, primarily riding Indian's bikes in the early days of the series. That changed this week with the reveal of the new FTR x RSD Super Hooligan, a limited-edition, race-inspired tribute bike concocted together with Sands himself.

The tribute in question is to the Indian FTR1200 racer piloted by Tyler O'Hara that won MotoAmerica's Super Hooligan National Championship last season. So yeah, this was a ready-made partnership just waiting to be leveraged, and leverage it Indian has, designing the 2024 FTR x RSD Super Hooligan in collaboration with longtime friend of the brand Roland Sands and his prolific crew of customizers.

But don't get the impression that the RSD bike is an all-new build. The FTR Super Hooligan is heavily based on the existing, already-premium FTR R Carbon model, and packs the same 120 hp, liquid-cooled 1,203cc V-twin engine and steel trellis frame, rolling on 17-inch wheels shod with sport tires. Up front is a gold, upside-down fully adjustable 43mm Öhlins fork mated to a rear Öhlins fully adjustable IFP piggyback shock. As on the R Carbon, an assist and slip clutch makes shifting a breeze, and the Metzeler Sportec rubber is slowed by radially mounted dual disc Brembo brakes.

The now-familiar 4-inch round touchscreen display in the cockpit looks analog but is all digital and powered by Indian's Ride Command system, which also allows access to important bike functions and data, along with three ride modes. Like the R Carbon, the FTR x RSD gets a dual Akrapovič muffler on the right side.

What makes the FTR x RSD Super Hooligan truly unique is down to its visual treatment, carried by striking Black Metallic bodywork pieces covered in authentic race team colors and plastered with Super Hooligan and sponsor graphics. That trellis frame gets covered in classic Indian Red paint, and the matching red cast wheels get a pop of gold for contrast. And we can't forget about that SHNC No. 1 plate, which occupies a prominent perch over the headlight and side plates to remind you of the recent championship victory.

In the same vein, race team sponsor logos and RSD badging take up real estate on the rear seat cowl, and Indian says owners will also get a stack of even more graphics, ready to be applied to the radiator shroud, front fender, and front fork. Other premium bits include Gilles Tooling parts with adjustable rearsets, oil cap, radiator cap, and bar-end weights to round out the exclusive detailing.

The 2024 FTR x RSD Super Hooligan is a limited-edition model, so each one is individually numbered on a commemorative console set atop the fuel tank. Indian says the bike is now shipping to dealers throughout the US and Canada, and will be priced starting at $18,499 which puts it just below the FTR x 100% model in the FTR series, pricewise. Just 300 units will be available globally.
