Honda may have taken a chance in bringing a scrambler-styled Rebel 500 to US shores last year, but it seems the
SCL500 was popular enough to warrant a return. In the first product release of the 2024 calendar year, the SCL500 rolls into the lineup unchanged, bringing back the upright riding position, high-mount exhaust, rubber tank pads, and all its other scrambler-inspired styling traits paired with a modern engine, chassis, and braking.
As before, the SCL500 flaunts a retro-inspired look with a wide front wheel, high-positioned exhaust, flat double seat, twin shocks, fork gaiters, and rubber fuel-tank pads. It shares its main frame and 500cc parallel-twin engine with the popular Rebel 500, so you can expect the same approachable performance, though the SCL is priced $300 more than the Rebel. (For reference, the SCL500 produced 39.6 hp at 8,100 rpm on the Cruiser dyno, compared with 40.8 hp for the Rebel 500.)
That tubular steel frame arrangement on the SCL is likewise unchanged, paired with a model-specific loop-shaped subframe to better support the flat double seat and repositioned shock mounts. The suspension, exhaust, wheels, and geometry are also unique to the SCL, with the scrambler—sorry, scrambler-styled—bike having longer suspension travel than the base Rebel, at 5.9 inches up front and 5.7 inches at the rear, rolling on an ADV-styled 19/17-inch wheel combo. The fork is nonadjustable, while the blacked-out tubular swingarm holds twin side-mounted shocks with two-step preload adjusters. ABS is standard.

Other differences between the Rebel 500 and SCL include a larger rear sprocket and different intake as well as a larger, 310mm front brake disc on the latter. A taller and wider handlebar, a higher (and longer) saddle, and footpeg positions that are further back all result in the SCL also having a vastly different riding position compared with the Rebel 500.
Even better, for 2024 the SCL500′s MSRP is unchanged from last year—it's still $6,799. Colors include Candy Orange and Matte Laurel Green Metallic, and new this year, a Matte Black Metallic. Owners can also personalize the SCL500 with Honda's wide range of accessories including a headlight visor, high front fender, hand guards, rear carrier, top case, and saddlebags. The SCL500 joins the already-announced Rebel 300, Rebel 500, and Rebel 1100s in Honda's 2024 US lineup (though it should be noted that the SCL is positioned in the Standard category on Honda's website), and bikes should be in dealerships by this April.
